I'm doing GCSE Resistant Materials in school at the moment, i just thought i'd show you my final project: Heres a small timeline for you Birch ply - cut to size Sellotaped together () just to see what it will be like size wise. Testing to see if my joints line up Testing to see if 'the hole' lines up! Glueing Top hinged. Stained Suburst finish on the top Thats all so far, i'm currently varnishing it, so when i've finished that, i'll get some pictures up!

I'm doing AS Product design at college because for some reason they don't offer Resistant materials.
Thanks for the comment!

GCSE Resistant Materials: I did this as a full GCSE and graphics as a half. We had to do a storage project, i ended up making a Ford Galaxy shaped CD holder, was LAME! lol, still got an A for it i think Then did DT for an A-level and built a car trailer that converted to hold bikes, got an E for that! But yours looks way better than anything i made!!

Looking good.
I did the same course and went on to do it for AS levels and A levels ..... and then a Product Design degree. I am now working at a product design company!
Keep up the good work.

Back in the day (oh god!) - I attempted a fishing tackle box with swing hinge storage etc... it came out great and I got a B+ - but it was so bloody heavy I couldn't carry it fishing DOH! That looks a nicely done bit of kit...... my wood skills are seriously lacking. All the ideas - none of the application good luck

Well, seeing all this is a mighty releif, I posted this up on 'The Mini Forum' and have so far only got snotty comments such as "seems like alot of effort to make a hinged box with a hole in the side" Thankyou for being so kind RR! I do love this place.

the people that make negative comments usually have not done or are capable of doing anything similar. gust jealousy and ignorance, they probably have no concept of woodwork or design. i however like your box.

I have a load of scrap wood left over, just enough to scrape a dashboard together - for a Mini (By scrape, i mean build, not actually scrape!)
Similar finish, something a bit different than a Custom consoles jobbie and a bit of fun!
Watch out for that, sometime.

I just noticed how large your workshops are. Jealous!
Like Tomasz I also did RM/graphics at GCSE and RM at A-level, currently doing a degree in Vehicle Design. Doubtful I'll actually find a job in it though.

Nice hinged box with a hole in the side No seriously, looks good. Used to work as a furniture maker doing bespoke stuff and some of the top boys were on good money, like 35 per hour and this was over ten years ago. Always enjoy playing with wood ;D

But yours looks way better than anything I made!! I took engineering and graphics.... ended up making a stationary steam engine for my final , When i was doing resistant materials before that we made bloody clocks... was the easiest thing in the world to do... (you'd understand if you saw the design we were forced to follow) poop... This on the other hand... well done mate... looks like they let you do your own thing there.... wish it was like that when i was doing it

Haha! well in year 10 we started by making a 'storage box' which wasnt all bad really, learned to finger joint and stuff. After that, we made some horrifically boring trophy, it was nice to learn how to braze and plastic dip, but my god was it dull. The nice thing is, that as you said, we got to do our own thing. Apparently though, we are the last year to do the course as it is in its present state, according to my teacher, instead of one big year 11 project like we've just done, they do 2 small ones, which sounds rubbish aha. Anyway, thankyou all for your comments
