Does anyone remember the transit 4x4, specially made for the fire service? We had one at a place i used to work going rotten in a barn, they looked pretty competent offroaders really. J I used to know a mobile tyre fitter who had one, it was an ex cleanaway motor and had massive wheels on it and a lift kit.

I thought about putting VW/Land Rover style roof windows in mine like this one... The Transit 4x4 was called a County, a quick Google couldn't reveal anything, but they're a favourite with the free party/spirit types. Much cooler than a Syncro anyday...

Got to love the Transit, I think everyone's been in one at some stage, everybody from the bank manager to bank robbers has probably used one for something or other. Course I'm more of a Leyland Sherpa man myself, we still have a classic Sherpa working for us at St Andrews Ambulance as a Mobile First Aid Post, a former Scottish Ambulance Service motor that's been with us since its first retirement and still going strong despite a fair mileage. Course it's a bit rough these days, might be getting retired eventually, as soon as we've finished building our replacement for it, we're making a new Mobile First Aid post out of a modern LDV that started out as a minibus with the high roof and long wheelbase, so it's ideal for the job really, but it doesn't have the character of our f*cked old Sherpa, I wish I had a picture of it somewhere, you'll have to imagine it but here's a good picture of a Sherpa chassis cab to help you!

I have driven a few different vans as a "white van man" and the transits are always the best. I did have the brakes fail on a transit (the version before the current one) which was very scary. I was driving down a country road very slightly over the 60 limit and the brakes just failed I would love an old Transit with a modern diesel in it.

A friend sent me these pics of his mates van yesterday,so naturally i thought of posting them on here straight away. ;D I remember working on transits at the local commercial garage for my work experience in 1991.Most were diesels but a when a V6 ambulance came in for a sevice i had to get mi hands dirty on that one.It sounded superb!

God damn hicky, thrice I agree with all that's said before. That's as beautfiful as a SWB Transit can get, and sliding doors! Too much... ;D
