That place looks excellent! I'd love to work somewhere like that one day. I did my degree in automotive electronic engineering with a view to landing a job at your kind of place, but it's not really panned out that way

Usually works out that way!!!!
I worked for 6 years in a steel mill, then 3 in a rubber extrusion plant, before we set up this lot!!
Where did you do your degree.....Loughborough?
We're not even really paying ourselves at the mo unfortunately, though we are busy now so heading in the right direction.
It can be tricky, as really you can only afford to do the absolute best quality work, but that takes time, and the bills for a good resto get pretty big!!.......

I did it at Sheffield Hallam (Started at Hull doing plain electronic eng. but it was all a bit abstract) It wasn't as "automotive" as I'd have liked, but it was better than Hull.
I've a mate who's a brilliant welder fabricator, and does roll cages and general rally prep. He's only got a little workshop (3 cars + tools) and his turnover doesn't even cover the rent, let alone his profit. Rather than run it as a business he runs it as a "way to pay for the workshop"
It's a curse word time for everyone but lets hope it picks back up sooner rather than later!
I know what you mean about having to do the absolute best work, or nothing at all. At the end of the day, your customers are likely to have some tinkering skills themselves (Being interested in older cars kind of assumes that) so if they wanted a bodge, they could do it themselves!

Flippin' heck, that's awesome. Can I ask how much do those lifters cost, and how are they powered? do they have to be fitted/inspected professionally?

No think it was the one after that.Started out as a silver sr with the 2 slot nose cone. He`d painted it black apart from the roof and the engine was on its last legs when i got it. Had a full respray and a tuned xe on R1 carbs. Was a really nice car but had to sell it on when i was out of work one winter and ive never seen it again.

Yep only slightly jealous about the size of your workshop Oh and also that you seem to have almost all the tools on my ideal wish list if i had the room Why do i live in such an expensive area of the country for lockups Yup, the one and only! was that the red SEH 8v powered one? - nice car that. That one is sat here, just finished welding it up after the mistreatment its suffered since leaving Clives hands. Guy i was doing it for has just changed his mind though Too many cars too little room. Although if i had a workshop like yours i would still have the same problem. Just with way more cars ;D

I wonder if we've crossed paths, being a fellow OMOC member, having owned umpteen Mantas over the years, and also having serviced for a couple of people competing in the BTRDA stage rally championship. Keep up the good work on the Mantas
