Great post Ben, that's a whole lot of history, all of which is from before I'd met any of you guys, or attended Area 52. It's interesting seeing it all in a state I've never seen for my self. I'm genuinely gutted by the idea that I'll probably have to miss a lot of the play days this coming year due to Uni, both workload, money and location . If I remember right, despite rarely spending the night, I don't think I've missed one since RRG10.

Great listing, and a reminder that I really need to get my in gear and come back down for more than a few hours next time!! Car is almost working and I have almost £30 spare before I hit my credit card limit, so no excuse really!! Russell.

hahahah at Bruce with hair! I'm the same as robin with missing these 1st play days but they look like everyone had a great time. Really wish i could afford the fuel to come to everyone. Cant think of a better way to spend a weekend. Its also made me realise just how important photo's are. The amount of times I've though, curse word it don't need to take pics, too much hassle. But thinking like that makes you miss reminiscing about the old times and how much fun it was. Expect a hell of a lot more photo's from me the next time I'm down.

That was owned by James (Eightsix) but I believe he sold it on when he bought a new house late last year. His attention to detail is impeccable so it was beautifully turned out. He painted it himself some time after that too. Robin, I'm in a similar boat through a different set of circumstances and will be gutted to miss any time there. I'll be dropping by as close to monthly as I can but weekends are far less likely Ryan, that was sort of the reason for posting that. It's because people have clever phones IMO. Smartphones instantly uploading to facebook means the cool pics are still being taken and seen, but only by a few people, and only for a short while (who actually goes back and looks through old Facebook photos of people they aren't stalking ) whereas if they are here, they are almost a public record for looking back on in a reminiscent way and to get people more involved in the RR community.. That's my opinion anyway. Unfortunately I'm an absolute luddite that can't use an ipod without supervision and I'm no good at composing photos so I'm doing my best to encourage others ;D

Good post Ben..
Again I have failed in the promise to get down to more - working saturdays is starting to become a massive PITA..

Thanks for the photo dredging Ben, good to see some shots of how it looked before I started popping along ;D Sam - that '86 now belongs to Chay from Corolla Brotherhood and seems to make it along to a lot of J-shows.

Ben, thank you for that! I guess it's slightly different for me having not only been there from the outset, but I also do look back sometimes to the beginning of the thread and remind myself of where it all began. What is most amazing is that it's one on the biggest threads on the whole of RR - not a million miles behind threads like the 'spotted' thread, 'abandoned ones' and 'no rhyme', yet it is kinda hidden in one of the least frequented parts of the forum. The forthcoming week is going to be a really busy one for Area 52, starting around 7am tomorrow when I head to Bournemouth to collect a car. It's pretty much full-on work from then right up until the Gathering, so I doubt I'll be on here much until after the Gathering now. The idea of posting up photos was brilliant. It's nice to see that people are going "ooh, so that's how it looked" and how it's evolved. Please, please PLEASE post more pics people.I used to take most of the shots for the first year, but this year I have been backing off a bit more with the camera, getting more involved in the actual work itself and also hoping that other people would start getting more shots. I see more and more cameras appearing at the unit, but this very rarely seems to equate to more shots in the thread which is a shame. I will endevour to take more shots myself, but I hope others do as well. It's a shared time, so if a number of us share the photography, we all get to see it from a range of views which is ace. Another thing....if people wouldn't mind taking a bit of time to go through the thread and start pulling out a few images that really 'sum up' Area 52 for them, that would be awesome. Kinda like Ben has done, but with images that really sum it up for you. A handful of images....with possibly a little explanation of what the place/the photo says to you? We are coming up to 2 years of play weekends, so lets have a look back before we head forward into a third year. Thank you again Ben and also thank you EVERY ONE for making such a special place. Here are some shots to kick it all off. Shots that really make me smile when I see them. Some good times, once in a while some sad times, but nearly always AWESOME times: Long live Area 52 ;D ;D ;D

Despite having never been, this place isn't just about a bunch of guys meeting up for a weekend of fun, messing around with cars, for me personally it sums up the whole ethos of retro rides as a whole and I love following it. Keep it up guys and if I need to be more vocal in this thread in future to show my appreciation, then so be it.

You know how it goes....a few beers and "I want my next MX5 to look awesome" - then this kinda happens: Boy was last night a laugh. I don't think today, tonight or tomorrow will be any different either? More details to come when I get back tomorrow night (but probably after some much needed sleep)

I didn't stay a whole weekend this time, but arrived at 9am yesterday and left at about 11.. I only got a little bit lost dealing with road closures for the balloon fiesta ;D As ever, I had a fantastic time and since it was quieter than normal, it stayed pretty focussed. We managed to get the wheel studs changed on the Rascal (though nothing ever goes entirely to plan, right? ) and Bruce managed to get the clutch changed on his Cavalier which looked like a right ball ache of a job.. Great to catch up with people, meet Rich (Rich606?), discuss Gathering plans, play with cool cars, go for a ride in James' Imp.. Look forward to the photos of the bits I missed

Just managed the Sat pm/Sun this weekend, but was a good one. As Ben said, the smaller numbers seemed to keep things a bit focused. Looking forward to photos!
