Right this is going back a year or so... But there was a r5 forsale on here... needed a headgasket. but was painfully cheap.... I tried to find a way round getting it home but with money being tight it never happened, Thats been playing on my mind eversince... And ive been secretly harbouring the urge to get an early renault 5..!!! (with the shifter out of the dash ) Now heres the problem.. are there any left? I cant seem to find one for sale let alone a decent one, the classic car mags don't have any in, probably as they arnt yet a classic to them. The usual classic sales pages I frequent don't even have a section for the 5 .... loose end? much!! according to autoexpress in august 06 : Renault 5 Mk1 72-84, sold 216,199 only 499 still alive (0.23%)

There is, if I remember rightly, a group 1 Renault 5 touring car for sale in the back of the current Retro Cars mag for under £1500.

Seeing this has sorta made me feel guilty as I scrapped a perfectly good '76 Ren5 a few years ago........so i could get a VDP allegro that was hanging! Scrapped that a year later. Mine was a 1300GTL with gearstick on the floor in metalic brown , i was young and foolish and should never have got rid of it. Steve

Have you tried any Renault clubs? I know there's a guy called MickPM an admin or mod in The Renault Sports Club who was good at finding rare Renault's like these. I'm sure at one point he had one as well as (IIRC) an ex Renault 19 Touring car.

Ebay is your best bet, the base spec mk1 r5's come up from time to time. Might be hard to find a dash shift one though!

yeah thats the 82 i mentioned above... still quite tempting but it doesnt have the appeal of say.. the blue base spec one up top......
And that gordini is absolute sex! shame its out of my budget ....... but ya neva know...
the fact they go for that sorta money supprises me... id much sooner pay 2k and get that than 2.5 or 3k and get a g40.....

i really dig these too, seen about 3 in the last 3 years, an old lady in a mint silver what looked like a Gordini, that black turbo that was for sale on here last year and a povo spec in london.
would love one, so cool

I owned a dash-change 5 a while back. Now lives in Sussex. I do know of another but I believe it needs a fair bit of work (they all do really!). Must admit, with the 845cc motor in them, they're horribly undergeared but quite nippy.
They only had dash-change for less than a year on our shores though, so there really aren't many. Changed to a floor-shift in late 1973 I believe.

I really like Phase 1 Renault 5's. The last one I saw was on its side in the scrapyard - not a bit of rust on it, looked really tidy except for the dents caused by the forklift. I also saw a very late registered one (late 1990's something) which must have been a license-built one from Eastern Europe (I don't recall who built them) - might be an option if a genuine R5 is proving hard to come by?

Mine missed tax-free by a matter of months IIRC. Very annoying! Doubt you'd find a tax-free right-hooker but would be enormous WIN if you did! Have a couple of pics.
