That dash is very similar to my first car a 1989 Fiat uno 45 Coincidence? I know its not the same but there are definate similarities in whackyness there. I also cant find a pic of a non abarth dash which had a very different steering wheel that was 2 spoke but the spokes where very close together. Looked much better in my opinion Raise you! - 1980 Visa dash. Aye, same feel Paul. And you can't go much wong with a brown plastic dash. Abarth mmm. Raise you?? It's got a clock, luxury! I get a speedo and a logo! ;D But I like Visas with all the stuff grouped around the wheel. Cool colour too.

I like it, it has a modern retro classic look. That's a contradiction. How can it be both modern and classic ?

I too thought it was very New Ka/Fiesta shape, with the wheels clearly stolen from Ford, who stole them from Vauxhall. They're still gash, too. Well, it doesn't look as annoying as the new VAG and Renault offers.

Well, there's retro and retro.
This new car is put into a market full of "retro" cars like new Beetles, new Mini's, Nuevo 500s, and whatever else there is out there... Rumor has had it that some new small Citroen was going to be a new 2CV. I think this is just Citroens way of telling us their car is not that.

That actuakky looks quite sympathetic. I like that, bet its nothing like a 2cv underneath though. I reckon it will be watercooled about 2 litres of capacity and brimming with technology so no nothing like what its pretending to be. Thats my problem with cars like the new Mini, Beetle and 500 they don't even share the same design ethos as the cars they are masquerading as. I did like the new Fiat uno that was designed last year but they never built it.

I'd never buy one....in fact I'd be more likely to buy cars that I'd consider to be the modern-day equivalent of their older counterparts.
Stuff like the Perodua Nippa has much more in common with the whole 2CV/Mini/500 ethos than any of these over-priced fashion-victim pastiches.

This is just Citroen's advertising lot trying to stir up a reaction for publicity. You fell for it!

No, this is just another car company desperately trying to recapture it's glory days by cynically reusing naming cues from the past. The people that feel for it are those that buy a certain car that is descibed in ads as 'cute' 'funky' (James Brown is funky. A modern r*tro-ese car isn't) And then happily pay a £5k premium over another model in the range with the same floorpan/running gear but more conventional looks (step forward VW Beetle/Golf, FIAT 500/Panda, Citroen DS3/C3, Alfa Mito/FIAT Punto)

According to all the bumf, DS in this case stands for Different Spirit; this is the first in a range of DS models that will be based on existing models. I mean, it is an obvious naming cue, but I don't see how that's a bad thing. There are no styling cues whatsoever, which I like; using styling cues but totally failing to recapture any of the intent of the original car is by far more cynical. I guess it's just Citroen's way of designating that this car is a little different, elevating the DS range above the normal model range. Especially when you consider the French pun in the name - DS is pronounced as Déese, French for Goddess. I think it's a fairly transparent naming system: you can have your Citroen in two flavours, C- whatever, or DS- whatever. Same mechanicals, different outsides. The number keeps a continuity through the name. I think it's a lot more honest that creating a sort-of coupé/hatch-back version, giving it a different name and passing it off as something different altogether... Citroen make some of the most excitingly-styled cars available at the moment. The C3 Picasso is a mad little thing, I like them a lot... (Having said all that, I would urge people to go and have a look at the DS3 website, for a marvellous example of marketing Bullplop translated into slighlty iffy English )

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

I will consider this as my new company car.. a good follow up for the focus I've got now.. I like this because it is modern, not retro, the dashboard is covered in iPhone plastick and looks like you're driving a modern glossy notebook. Outside is so full of styling curse word that it makes chrome mirror cover look gash (ooops, they allready were...) I want a white one with a zebra print on the roof, so you can park it on a pedestrian crossing.. (called Zebra paths over here...) Hopefully they'll add the option of a space age VISA chrono dashboard later

I take it from the above posts its strictly prototype?

It really reminds me of the new shape Ka and Fiesta. Is it on the same floorplan as the Ka and 500?

This thread needs better Citroens! Here's a start: The SM, one of the most beautiful cars of all: And in a clever (he said) connection with the movie car thread, here's another SM from The Longest Yard:A prototype 2CV, Traction Avant and a Type A: Yes it is a modern, but I have no doubt that the C6 will one day be a classic. Wonder what the DS6 coupe will look like?

I love the C6. I think it trumps any German car for high class looks and cruising. The lines are so long and smooth, even futuristic by today's standards. Needs wackier wheels though, moondiscs or somthing.

Needs wackier wheels though, moondiscs or somthing. Hired one a few months back 'cos the rental co' had run out of Astras. It was glorious. full of fancy things like electronic handbrake and a system that kept the brakes applied so it wouldn't roll down hills while taking the handbrake off. 2.5 TD went like the wind and it was soooooooo comfy.
