and now we can see light at the end of the tunnel!! This Mk2 escort rallycar project was put on hold 'cos mi mate got married and started a family and didnt have any spare time but now the kids have grown up a bit we've got cracking on with it again. He wanted to keep it un-arched and standard looking cos every Mk2 rally car seems to be heavily modded and he wanted to be different. So here it is. Were using a 1600 crossflow to start with as he's a novice driver. When he 's got to know the car a bit better, something quicker'll be thrown in. A little bit of weight saving going on there!! ;D It went to a local nutter last week who works on these for a living and rallies one of his own to have the wiring done and the pipe work plumbed in,so we should have it back running maybe this weekend! He was considering selling it a while ago due to lack of time but we soon brought him round to our way of thinking!! Especially with me giving up loads of break times at work doing most of the ali work for him for free! Just need to see it out there kicking modern cars asses now! When we've got it finished,it'll be time to stop practicing welding and fabrication work and get on with the real deal on my 131! ;D ;D

i absolutely love this! Looks well put together with a lot of thought and attention to detail. Too many rally cars just look thrown together to me, but this is far from that!! TOP WORK! I expect to see some vids once its out there kicking modern car asses! ;D

That looks superb really well put together. ;D However one observation I will make is I think you might have difficulty with the hydraulic handbrake as it looks as though the cylinder attachment is too far away from the pivot.

Nice, it's always nice to see an Escort done a bit differently, these days removing the bumpers and sticking on group 4 arches seems to be the first thing people do, great to see one done differently! The colour's nice too, quite period.

Cheers for the advice. We'll get it figured out. Believe it or not,i had 2 hours after work last friday to cobble the handbrake set up together as well as the bracket for the fluid reservoirs so it was quite a rush job as it was going to the break pipe bloke the next morning!! ;D I don't know, the cars used as a shelf for 5 years, then it's rush, rush, rush at the last minute. Not the way i like to work but there you go. When it comes back to base, there's plenty left to get on with,so hopefully it wont take another 7 years to get finnished!! ;D ;D

I to "Wowed" out loud - a clean, simple, well thought out, well built Escort, not something you see every day. Looking forward to seeing it done.

Looks lovely. Neat colour. Excellent execution, not just another MKII. I regret selling my 4 door Ghia years ago, when you could pick a good one up for £250 from the local paper.........

oooof that's a winnah for sure! love the fact it's not arched, and the detail on the interior puts many road cars to shame. i really hope he cleans it thoroughly after every rally!

Brought it back to base this afternoon. All the wiring is set up for the spots when they get fitted as well as the navigators horn push and the electronic ignition which we're gunna convert it to later on. He made all the brackets to fit the sensors onto for the trip meter and speedo as well,so thats another job done. All the lights and electrics work spot on and we have a spark ,so tommorow the old beast will be hopefully running once again! Mi mate says if we get it running,it's getting the accelerator cables grafted on and were off down the road with the trade plates on! Cant fault him! ;D Got the brakes piped up as well,so the finnishing line is drawing a bit closer. Will keep you all updated with progress. Master switch now fitted and a lot of messy wires to be sorted out. Passengers side chairs going in too, when we get it running for the test run. More pics to follow.......
