Mark - Yeah it is not bad, but I fear it is geered far too high!
It does likek 15 mph in tickover, but stalls easily if you are too hard with the clutch.
I really need to sort out a throttle control first to see if it will rev under load. My guess is no!
I also need to remake the tentioner. It is a bit of a bodge and keeps locking up.
I also really need to finish migging the frame up, I got a bit worried the other day shooting up the (private) road and realising it was only held together with hopes and dreams.

I'm 'obtaining' a 70cc pitbike with defective rear brake tomorrow for the princely sum of 20 whole pounds but having trouble thinking what to stuff it into for RRG! The only thing ive come up with so far is a drift-gokart... engine at the front, elongated rear etc etc

This looks great now. Seems to chug along quite nicely. Be interesting to see it with some throttle.
Looks like your tensioner has already strted to chew up the drive belt edges there. Might need some more width between the large washers?
Good work though! Can't wait for a go!

Jonny - That scooter with the wheels looks mad. Is that three wheels across the back?
Mike - The belt got a bit chewed when the tentioner locked up! Don't suppose you have a spare throttle grip off of that bike you were (or were not) doing up?

WOW!!!!
I rigged the clutch up with some springs to a clutch leaver, had a fiddle with the belt tentioner, and fitted a very crude twist grip throttle and took it for a ride. I then proceeded to scare my pants off! Its gunna be fast!

Wow a whole month since updating! Have no fear, I have been beevering away in the background. After having numerous runs on the bike to test it out, I had a list of issues that needed to be sorted. 1) The frame was not straight 2) The forks were not straight 3) It needs a propper fuel tank 4) It needs a propper kill switch 5) The gearing is WAY high 6) It had NO brakes 7) Belt tentioner was problematic 8) Needs welding propperly So... I have been gradually cracking the issues off the list The first thing to do was give it a nice warm home in my workshop. It had been living outside in the elements for the initial build, but I like it, it works and I have spent enought time on it to warrent finishing it properly! So into the workshop and up onto the trusty workmate I leveled the rear subframe (the only square bit on the bike) See how the front tubes are off at an angle.... whoops lol!!! I cleaned some of the paint and weld slag off some of the welds ready to mig the up I found a front sproket with half as many teath as the old one so that should sort my gearing out Improved the clutch mechanism fixing to reduce slop Springs fitted better sorting bits out to make a better tentioner Pulled the zorst off to clean the old welds waiting to mig that up as well I then dug out an old dynamo To power the front and rear lights So more rebuild work shortly. I also pulled the 10hp motor into the shed... what to do? four engines in my shed now, (one on the bike out of shot). This is a big engine! Ideas on a postcard....!

well this isnt a postcard! but, seeing those skoda engines sat there looking homeless, how about fitting one of them into a bike frame? as in the past several car engined bikes have been built, about the most common being the munch mammoth but have seen pictures of a saab two stroke powered bike and today i was at a local bike show and there was an imp powered bike on show, mind you it was a bit special. 750cc and twin cam! ttfn glenn and yes my medication needs looking at!

OK an update from this weekend. I borrowed a mig welder (thanks Mark) and migged the frame up. Not perfect, but much better than before. I then migged the exhaust up and cleaned it up a bit. I plan to polish it and hope it doesn't rust too much (won't leave it out in the rain!) I then used plenty of filler to smooth it all out (chopshop stylee lol!) still need to finish that then give te frame some paint. Then the new smaller front sproket fitted I am also going to polish the engine cover and perhaps give it a clear coat I plan on painting the frame satin black with polished metal exhaust and engine. Should look ok! I did think about making the frame really good looking, but keeping the mower engine looking the same, and perhaps sticking the odd handful of grass in and around it to pay homage to its origins, but in the then decided I would rather make it look a bit more 'propper' Lewis

Just to keep this updated...
I have been working on the frame with some more filler, primer and sanding. I have also been working hard on tarting the engine up, which is now looking pritty good (compaired to the mess it looked like before).
Do you want to see progress shots or shall I do a 'reveal' at the gathering?

It's not a patch on yours as all I did was take stuff off but it's quite a laugh and with the cheapo knobbly tyre almost capable off road, see the battle scar on the headlight cowl - I was going to be at the gathering with it but SWMBO is insisting we go on holiday.....ah well - next year. You can see my Mk1 Golf Cabrio 1600 diesel in the background which, when it's finished, I'll show you properly. 'Modern' family wagon - sorry. Oh yes and please post pics of the final incarnation of whatever you're calling the chopper mower.
