Hey mate, this looks incredible! Love it. Just curious, how did you go about getting the GTR subframe certified? How difficult was it? not hard. first step is to find a good certifier that is not a dick. some of them can be very anal and make life very difficult indeed. once you get in contact with a good certifier talk through the project with them and let them know exactly what you plant to do and ask them when/what they want to inspect as you go. if your not sure about the legalities of some aspect ask them. if you keep them involved with the whole build then certification is easy. if your in the auckland/hamilton area i recommend getting in touch with Mark Stokes. he's a hard man to get hold of but its worth the effort. sheepers.

Unfortunately I'm down at the bottom of the south island... and all the local certifiers are indeed, dicks.
So you did all the welding on it yourself and that was fine as long as they checked it over as you went? sorry just trying to work out if I can do the work myself or if I have to pay thousands to get someone else to...

I'm driving my car to Invercargill and back in about 8 weeks, if its at all possible we could meet up for a beer and a yarn? i will be heading through Oamaru (i think). the best way to keep up with my movements/ let me know where you'll be is to keep an eye on my thread on old school -http://www.oldschool.co.nz/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=29309 (you should sign up to old school anyway, there are people in your area who woul love to see your car/talk curse word) i did all the welding myself but i was a ticketed welder when i served my time so thats probably what made it OK. once again dude, talk to the certifier before you start. you can probably do all the welding yourself. i would say that the only stuff you'll have to get xrayed will be suspension components (if you weld any, like struts. i make coil overs for people all the time and they have to be xrayed for certification) drop me a line on old school, would be cool to see your car/have a yarn. in other news, finished the interior trim. curse word terrible picture but you might get the idea. i covered all the exposed bits with carpet and i also made new carpet bits to go over the front of the wheel arches, the bit that usually has a vinyl cover. I'm happy as larry with how its all come out and now ive finished it ive learned a little bit about covering weird shapes in carpet, was fun and will trade again. i would have taken photos but phone is not keen on black/dark photos. my phone is racist. so, what should i do with the strut towers?? i could carpet the m as well or paint them nicely?? what do you reckon? sheepers.

and then there were two. on opportunity came up that i couldn't pass by. so now i have a 112 and a 122. the 122 is going in the celica and ill probably sell the 112. it looks to be in top condition and its actually smaller than the 112. i still have a long way to go with the manifold so don't expect anything this side of Christmas. sheepers.

I've missed a few updates so ill catch up now, gearbox went by by. twas a W58 that had shown no signs of having issues. it destroyed second gear whilst doing a fully sick drive normally in a straight line in heavy traffic. no idea why it went bang, i did nothing other than change gear. so now its time for an R154. while the motor is out ill tidy up a few things and fix a few things, with a bit of luck i should be able to get the motor back in this coming weekend. new happenings. mainly this. Untitled by sheepers, on Flickr Untitled by sheepers, on Flickr Untitled by sheepers, on Flickr many thanks to Dan (ta63-1uzze) for the dummy engine. with it i have been able to see that the manifold i made actually fits the motor and also that i should be able to get the whole shebang under the bonnet. using science (taping a CROWN horn button to the front of the motor and closing the bonnet) i have calculated that i should have about 10mm gap between the bonnet and the pulley. pretty happy about this.
