Ive not posted a project thread on here before now due to the incredibly slow progress I'm making on the mx5. However i want to keep everything in one place and draw from comments and ideas form others.
I got the mx5 after a series of events kicked off when i sold my bb4 prelude , bought a curse word civic EJ9 1.4 which really was terrible and after a short morning of replacing the brake discs and pads on the civic then freeing up the IACV and getting so hacked off with it i jumped on gumtree and saw this up for swaps for any car with back seats .
I E-mailed the guy and had the mx5 in my possession that night. To say i was happy is an understatement , id bought the civic from the dealer for £450.
Driving it home i noticed it has some issues it was pulling to the left clutch bite point was mega low and a very slight knock from the rear.
nothing i couldn't cope with
How i picked her up.
The 17 inch alloys ruined the handling so much so it was a chore to drive , but i managed to get rid of them fairly quick and got a set of 15 inch wolfrace octanes to tide me over.
then painted them
yep its high and still is but coilovers arent cheap and sadly i am
Seeing as i am skint i tackled the important things first and after i lost the pads on the front they were replaced. But something wasnt right at all, the piston on the NSF caliper was very stiff when i pushed it back and after i loaned the car to a friend 300 miles later my now painted wolfrace wheel was black with brake dust.
The caliper was seized on hence the pulling to the left, so I bought a caliper from ebay for 99p and will fit it this week ( the cars been off the road over the last wee while)
Id been getting grief for the luggage rack that came on the car from friends and tbh i wasn't a fan either.
So i set about removing the rack and under it was a few holes and bad bad paint and scratches . So drawing inspiration from another mx5 id seen i thought sod it and filled it and painted it satin black and threw on some stickers needs more tho
I also picked up and started refurbing some RH ad Cups with the intention of getting two more but 8 inch wide for the rear .
Heres a very rough photoshop of what I'm aiming for oh and also want/need a roll cage and a front lip of somesort
Still thinking about the interior its super plasticy and needs some touches
Still need to replace the clutch slave cylinder and track down the knock which I'm guessing will be a drop link.
it also needs a proper cut and polish
