Yes, it's true....right now it appears I'm going to have a Tin Snail on my drive before the week's out. It's not the beige one. But the red '88 2CV Special behind it is the actual car. It's not cut and dried yet, I'm going armed with screwdriver, torch and cash on Saturday morning, but all being well I'll be driving it home. It's taxed/tested but does need some remedial work in the underbody department, but crucially it's on a galvanised chassis. Result. And it's the right price. Double result. I'm not gonna tempt fate any further, I just couldn't keep quiet about it because basically I'm so excited. So provided there are no great mechanical horrors (and apparently the engine/gearbox were replaced two years ago, so there shouldn't be)......... I CAN'T F***ING WAIT. ;D

These are cool. I never knew that owners modded 2CV's. I have never seen one modded before.

That red one's got the early pre-'75 grille on, I always wanted one of those when I had mine. Although the bodies are just as prone to tin-worm, Dyane chassis seem to resist the grot way better than 2CV models. Especially post-'86 Portugese-built examples which could almost dissolve before your eyes. That's why you find that most 2CV's are now sitting on galvanised underpinnings, whereas many Dyanes (including my old one, now in the capable hands of Tri) are still doing just fine on their original backbones. Both those Dyanes look very tempting for the money. Someone asked how easily they can be lowered. Couple of C-spanners and 30 minutes sees them sat on the ground. Exhibit A.... ;D

Never really been into them, but some of the above looked good, especially the turbo one ;D Some interesting 4x4 conversions here... including some that are rally raiding! www.2cv4x4.com/index.html

THIS! I'm actually looking for a small van at the moment since the Pug estate is too thirsty and I need to be able to advertise my business as I drive around. Amazingly Mrs Shortcut agrees that a nice 2CV van would fit the bill. They do great mpg, are reasonably cheap to run and insure and create a stir that would help people remember me. What am I looking at for a decent example? I realise this one is concours but how much for a nice daily user? If I could swing this, it would totally rock. [/stupidcoolspeak]
