Hi all newbie here Brilliant site you have here !! I'm still looking through the threads so excuse me if this is a repost... I have the chance of a '95 Skoda Felica 1.3 LXi Plus. Could anybody give me advice on what would be specific to look out for with these please? thanks in advance.

on a 95, check the rear arches. Factor in £200 if they're quite bubbly. Check the tailgate on the inside, under the window. Hopefully it isn't rusty there but may well be. Check the cups on the front shocks for rust, hopefully none, or else factor in £100 for new ones (easy swap). Listen to engine for rattly tappets, easy fixed but gives an indication of how well its been cared for. Check oil for mayo - HG goes often in poorly maintained cars. Check exhaust is held up - mounts go often too. Check sunroof - if it has one it probably leaks, and new seals are not expensive but don't always fix the prob. Everything else should be fine; those are the common stuff. Avoid it if it has other serious faults that aren't listed there - it's not like you wont find another...

thanks alot for that mate, very much appreciated!!! I've made a note with the ol' pen and paper as I tend to forget everything when looking at cars and my heart rules my head. Good bargaining tools I'm hopefully looking at it in the morning so I'll update with pics and verdict ect... Cheers.

I test drove a Felicia a while back, I wanted to like it but it was the most uninspiring thing I've ever driven. Floppy handling, vague steering and unresponsive with no Czech charm to back it up. It was a well looked after low mileage car too. They are curse word.

Tidy as! Contrary to the previous poster - my sister in law had one of these in 1.3(GLX?) flavour. Surprisingly pokey and fun to drive little hatchback. They also have quite a satisfying induction roar. Great buy mate, hope to see it on it's ar$e very soon

The one I tried had a VAG 1.9 diesel fitted, maybe fitted with the Skoda OHV 1.3 lump it's a bit more characterful. Doesn't make up for the other failings though.

Doesn't make up for the other failings though. the 1.9 is why. its too heavy and robs the handling, and its not quick enough, and it sounds like poo. the interior is still not very good, it all stays together well but its much too German. Go drive a Favorit hatch. In fact, buy one, they're like 27p on ebay. Looks like a good example blake! Sorry about this morning Must hoke out some pictures for you...

Had a Skoda Favorit like the one in your sig... cost me £50, best £50 I ever spent, lasted me six months, never had a problem with it. Should of kept it cos the Sierra that replaced it was a dog.

1.3 is nippy, drive no worse than something of similar ilk. Watch for rotting aluminium radiator. Battery is a bit of a pig to get in and out too. (inside the scuttle panel sort of area)
I think the engine is all alloy so the cars probably weigh nothing.

Felicias are not an exciting drive, but if you find one with the right engine they are a pretty nippy and agile car. Your one has the right engine...higher compression 1.3. The 1.6 petrol and 1.9 diesel engines are too heavy really for good handling and the low compression 1.3 is a bit sluggish and wheezy. Best fun of the lot though is an early Favorit with carb fed high compression non catalyst 1.3.

I fairly regularly drive a couple of 1.3 Mpi Felicia's both late 90's... one of which cost £200 and has behaved perfectly for the last 13k miles. In my opinion they're one of the most fun modernish small car I've driven. The engine feels responsive and eager despite it's small capacity, matched to complimentary gear ratios. Coupled to the fact they never go wrong and fly through MOT's either needing nothing or a single sub £20 part. In my opinion far superior drive to the injected Favorits. However, my early carb Favorit was on a par I think. You can get HP coilovers from Czech, I reckon that'd be fun The handling could do with stiffening up a bit, but that's mainly due to them being softly sprung as standard. That does give a smooth ride though! Great purchase!
