Great photos (as usual) Brian. Love the one from the bridge showing the whole scene.
Sorry for the delay in posting my response - I didn't get home until late yesterday afternoon (Adam & I crashed at Area 52 Tues night and spend all morning/afternoon unloading/moving things around) and have just been too fazed to type anything since!
It was just amazing to meet everyone, the usual 'suspects' and lots of people I've been really wanting to meet for some time (SkinnyLew, Dez, Johnny69, Ed BMX dude, Hardcore JamesP, PopupToaster etc...) As usual, I just found it impossible to spend any time properly catching up with anyone, instead only managing 2 min conversations here & there! I think this is the legacy of having to look after the dog and having to find suitable space for all the books & magazines that were very kindly donated to Area 52 along with a large haul of wheels for various people & various cars. I think my overall train weight was slightly heavy for the journey home!
Special thanks must go to:
Adam for being my road trip buddy & company for the day, my assistant during the tat collecting/loading/unloading and also for looking after Jed while I popped inside the Ace to collect a few certificates ;D Thanks Adam, it was lovely to have you along for the haul....and thanks also for brining a supply of hot chocolate out to the car park for me.
Steve (Speedman) and Si (Rmad) for donating a hefty haul of mags to add to the A52 library. Thanks guys.
JamesP for another donation of mags for A52, along with some banners....and also for delivering my banded steels. Thanks mate, it was great to meet you at last.
Matt Jones for donating a whole library to the library! Seriosuly mate, that was very brave of you to sacrifice your suspension for the sake of hauling along some of the most random, obscure and interesting technical manuals I've ever seen. An awesome mass of books which will have their very own area built - mainly because there are just way too many tohouse in the newly built shelves at the unit. Thanks for such a generous gift. (my back is now killing me from unloading/moving them all!!)
PFChris for dog sitting duties - taking Jed when I needed to visit the loo's or collect a set of wheels from someone. 'Uncle Chris' did a fine job with the little monkey. Thanks mate.
KevFromWales for bringing various bits of tat along for me to carry back for Adam, Grunty, Swollen etc...and just for being 'Kev' ;D
Grizz for the plates to distribute out to various A52 regulars - I know they will really appreciate them.
Also to ALL the people who helped load the mass of books into the back of the 'mobile greenhouse' - saving me a lot of lifting/carrying. A true demonstration of the old adage: many hands make light work.
But the biggest thank you must go to all the people who voted for me! I am still in shock that I won anything, let alone forum person! I have never won anything in my life before, so to be awarded 3 (or 4??) awards was just beyond belief! Sorry about the curse word speech....never winning anything combined with not thinking I would win anything meant I didn't know what the hell to do/say. I now know what a rabbit feels like when caught in the glare of the headlights!!
Thank you all again.....it's very humbling considering the amazing people and incredible talent that make RR the most amazing place on earth! In my book, everyone on here is part shared and equal winner of my award for their contributions, efforts and support with Area 52. I have a feeling that 2010 is going to be an epic year for the little unit....and for Retro Rides as a whole.
So here is to everyone that makes is such a great place. To Hotwire, Rmad, Oldbus, and EVERYONE on Retro Rides.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.....
