I've got chance of a 1996 Asia Rocsta with a 2.2 Mazda diesel engine. It has no tax or test and is available for spares or repair, and it seems a good price. Is there anything that i need to look for before buying 1? Here's a pic to refresh memories as to what 1 looks like.

Weirdly, I have always like these.
I am sure the build quality will leave somewhat to be desired, but if the price is right, you should be able to convert even a pigs ear into a silk purse.
I hope someone here knows then at least a bit.... so that we can all be enlightened.
I would think it will be a nice toy.
Capabilities, and the rest.... ?? Who knows?

I've always had a soft spot for them, but it looks like i may miss out on this 1 as he has a lot of interest, but after having a sit in 1 today when having a look around a Ford Explorer for my cousin, i am planning on getting 1 at some point. I've been told Suzuki rims bolt straight on, and you can fit 31" tyres with no problems.

CJ's are cheap if you look around, trouble is they are all petrol and left hand drive, which is why the prices are lowish i reckon, my mate loves them. the CJ7 is slightly longer wheelbase than the CJ5 was and loses a bit in the looks department i think because of it, however proper jeeps always look better than the copys do, the blue CJ5 in this pic was a runner and cost him about 350 quid.

There is one sitting at the end of a local mechanics yard. I had nosey at it and found the timing belt hanging off, the cam pulley cracked and one of the cam carriers in the head smashed to hell. Dunno what happend to it, but its deader than disco and currently the focus of some kind of legal liability struggle.

Test driove a Mahindra when they first arrived as they seemed a cheap way into a new 4x4, bloody horrible, more like a tractor than a car, they make a series landy seem comfy and luxurious to drive, very good off road though by all accounts

Tell me about it, worse thing i ever did was letting the insurance company take it away without whipping the front end out of it. Hopefully will get the chance to start on another project this year, but it looks like there's a serious upgrade in the house/garden/garage situation coming towards the middle of the year so i don't want to be trying to move a couple of cut in half cars around. i may just be collecting the bits this year rather than actually starting anything, i'll try and buy a faster Jag to tide me over.

I'm pretty sure that they have axles based on one of the smaller dana series, maybe a 35 or 40 and as such they are pretty though.
Looked at getting a pair a while ago to go under the SJ but it never happened.
