Our driveway has become a ski slope. Nothing can get up or down. The road at the end of the driveway is full of mercs and BMWs that cant make it up the hill. My dad's stuck on the wrong side of Reading because no one can make it over the bridge across the river and the M4 is mayhem. Had some pretty good entertainment watching a Mitsi L200 overcook it on round a bend narrowly missing a wall

Had great fun in the 2CV on the way back home. It's got a touch milder, so the ice has gone slushy. Still enough slip to cause a few heart-stopping moments, but not so much that you feel like you'll meet the scenery. Even more fun because the roads were empty! Everyone was sticking to doing 40mph on the major routes...
More snow falling now....

Well the MX5 has been freezing solid.. inside and out.. got freezer burn on my alloy gearnob But no snow here.. did get amused by a Jewsons lorry getting stuck on the ice rink outside my house.. why do people insist on pouring copious amounts of water on their frozen cars.. it then pours down the slight slope outside freezing as it goes making exiting the village interesting. Have had a few 'nice' slides but to be honest all done on purpose!

Thank god I fixed the heater on the Jag. It looked like an ice cube!! Took a while to get the lock warm enough to turn without busting. Full choke and she caught first time, so I left her to chug away at the botom of the garden for a half hour before getting adventurous... Regards Ric

Freezing locks and washer fluid is all my problems, one slightly worrying sideways moment but it was soon all in order again. I did get stuck but that was my own fault, having a play and went off the road.

No issues with the Goof, just poured luke warm water over the locks, doors and windows and I was set. Only thing stopping me from getting into work on time were all the yards who can't drive in slightly snowy conditions, and the traffic! I did have some hand brake foolery on a quite covered street, and also managed a sweet drift onto my driveway much to next doors horror!

Not yet, only with other motorists who don't know how to drive in snow I allways run a 50/50 mix in the washer bottle and anti freeze all year round I never WD the locks it attracks dirt and they gum up i just re-graphite em, door seals i use some slimey rubbish dash polish, you know the stuff that leaves the dash feeling like youve just sprayed WD40 all over it Other than the battery on the disco going bit "John Inman" and needing a jump pack first thing i aint had a problem, yet , even the carbed escort started first crank ;D Mind it was a pain on one car, i went into the garage to defrost me fingers in front of the space heater and by the time i went back out there was 4 inches of snow on the engine so i shut the bonnet and went in for a cuppa ;D

The only drama i've had in the snow was my heater decided it wanted a lie in this morning but 1 swift thump on the top of the dash woke it up & it burst into life & has been working fine all day/night long as i've just been out to retrieve my best mate in the lanes where he decided to experience a moment in his vectra & he came to rest in the ditch!! Took me longer to get to him than it took the Brat to haul it out of the ditch ;D

My dad made it back in the disco, using pavements and verges as all the roads through Reading were scattered with abandoned cars!

has everyone dropped there tyre pressures a little? and rear wheel drivers got a bit extra weight in the boot? i reccomend a couple paving slabs or bags of cement / sand. the latter can be spread on troublesome slippery bits to aid traction if you do get stuck! plenty screen wash and ice scrapers plenty (how many people have been using cd cases?!)

I'm not a fan of weight in the boot, it just adds to the pendulum effect if the back steps out and makes it more likely you'll spin if you have to brake, your much better off just buying some skinny steel rims and fitting tall snow tyres on the back, you'll get places a 4x4 on road tyres cant go. Our pickup truck is pretty light on the back, but it has all terrain tyres on it, they are not that aggressive but they tend to clear the tread reasonably well especially as high profile tyres tend to deform more which squeezes the snow out, it slides about lovely but it's not got stuck yet, i've only had to engage 4 wheel drive a couple of times and that was manly to lesson wheelspin rather than get unstuck.i

ditched the mx5 and I'm using my mums 4th gen civic sedan which is a much better alternative to braving it in rwd. the roads in my area have had no grit put down and yesterday it took me an hour to go 20 miles. The boot has been stocked with screen wash , water, jumper leads a blanket and a torch, hopefully the snow clears now tho. Reminds me of living up north

On our first flurry of snow the plod closed off Shooter Hill awaiting the belated gritter truck, advise from said plod was to park up and walk, sod that. Used the unsalted back streets which were much more slippery to get my precious cargo of beer home and was mighty impressed with the transits traction action( was well worth searching the scrap yards for them tyres). Much fun has been had with induced slippage (obviously on private land with no one about) and the only real problems have been negotiating the challenges presented by the driving of others. That said though, had to leave the van down the road last night but only because abandoned cars prevented a good run at the hill, was quite funny buses and cars all over the place some had barricaded their stricken vehicles with wheelie bins as they were stuck in obvious crash barrier sites.
Nearly forgot, could be unconnected with the weather (poss just come unconnected) but indicators on the van have stopped working and seemed to have lost main beam one side on the car, water getting in?

I was expecting problems in the truck, the thought of its daily 35 mile commute scared me in the snow we had, the rear doesn't grip at the best of times, but it started straight away and hasn't missed a beat. Had an icicle hanging from the inside of the sunroof though....
