Just got a pretty awsome pipe bender at work and I'm thinking about making a four branch for my FE 2.3 Victor. Anyone know a good site with info on how best to make one? is a 1,3,4,2 firing order Chears all, Vambo

Does no one already do one you could copy? Also if you want to make some cash you could start making them for the vauxhall 2.0 ecotecs both fwd and rwd as no one caters for them rwd and fwd ones are mega expensive.

The ecotec ones in a mk3 astra sell for just over 300 for a s/s one.You cant get one in mild so about 200. Also as the xe`s run out more and more people are putting the eco into rwd cars so that would be a good market as no one makes an off the self one.

That bender isn;t suitable for thin wall tubing though - it for roll cage type tubing (in teh region of 2mm depending on teh CLR of the die). It would kink 1mm wall exhaust tubing.

There was a site with some info on gas flow rates which would have been good for you but i've no idea where it is now as i glanced over it years ago.
Just make sure all the pipes are the same length before they all join up and make the start of the manifold (i can't remember the tech terms for it) as straight as possible for as long as possible to ensure maximum gas speed.

No it will do 16 (1.6/1.5mm)gauge very well up to 1 3/4". it may not look it, but it is a well ace bender, cost a few quid too!! Maximum pipe thickness is 2" but for 16 gauge 2" it requires sand filling!

What I'm looking for is which pipes to join to which, I'm guessing with a 4cly engine with 1342 firing order i join 1 to 3 and 2 to 4 then both together???

My 4 branch has cylinder 1&4 and 2&3 joined togeather and it's on the same firing order as yours.
It seems to be a pretty good manifold though but there are no alternatives so i have no idea if it's ideal or not. Sorry.

Designing a good manifold is quite a complex operation - things like cam duration, gas velocity etc dictate how long the primaries should be and where they should join. I'm sure the formulae and other info is out there somewhere but I think it's quite a "dark art" to make one that gives good performance. Apparently Headers By Ed supply a good information pack which tells you how to design and make a good manifold. Not sure if it covers four-pots or just V8's though.

I'm going for an ecotec for my viva so please start making good quality rwd manifolds for rwd setup. Infact if you make one ill test it for you free of charge on my car. ;-) Now theres a bargain for you

Hmm from looking at many pics on the internet it seems there are a lot that go 1 and 4 together and 2 and 3 together! will do some more research!
I'm geting into the idea of making simple/affordable RWD Ecotech manifolds, may need some measurements from you Slammed66!
If I can make a decent jig i could make a few but need to find a local CNC company to make the flanges.
Will look into it when i get back at work.

Try laser cutters, it is a lot cheaper than getting the flanges cnc'd! Rysz.
