My dad had a Croma many moons ago. An ex-demonstrator and 100% the most expensive car he ever bought.
Great for motorway cruising. Not so great for terminal engine failure at 70,000 miles*
*following the servicing guidelines & not hammering 70k on it in 18 months might have been a good move though

Been wondering about those protons, they have been hit with the ugly stick but how bad can they be if they're based on an old mitsi, don't know much about em but, i know old mitsi's are rare. could a retro conversion be carried out i wonder.... also are they rwd or other?
Yeah, Plenty of random old 5dr toyotas playing taxi in halifax, bradford, manchester leeds and rest of the the country

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

they're forgotten for a reason ;D Oh, Please tell us why? firstly, you might want a sense of humour, hence the smily on my initial post....secondly...probably the terrible build/rot problems they suffered from .....

firstly, you might want a sense of humour, hence the smily on my initial post....secondly...probably the terrible build/rot problems they suffered from ..... I noticed the smily at the time. Not sure what humour has with asking a simple question (hopefully from someone with experience of the pair). I've no knowledge of the Croma and any info on the R25 is from others. From what I've been told the R25 isn't any more rust prone than similar cars, Drives OK, relatively ecomomical & reliable and very comfortable. However it's a rather souless car. I'd quite like a V6 one as a workhorse, and the V6 Turbo can really pick up it's skirt... Oh here's a smily to keep you happy...

Agreed the 25 V6 turbo is quite an interesting beast. However I believe it was universally panned when new for its powerful engine/wobbly floaty chassis combo. Also the styling is very bland and somewhat ungainly at the same time, and the dashboard, whilst cool-looking, is as crummily made as dashboards get. Saying that, both criticisms are equally valid for the croma, which managed to be thoroughly lousy in every department, including the engine, which is saying something as it’s the usually lovely 2.0 twin cam. “Every f**kin one o’ them ya get’s gorra f**kin rod through the side” used to say my local scrapman.
Both are worthy of the name ‘sh1tters’ in my view.

they're forgotten for a reason ;D Thats exactly what I was thinking. There are some brilliant cars from the 80s but most saloons were particularly bland

heh, I scrapped one of those proton's a few months ago... it was purple... LOL
was cheap and reliable, build quality was appaling though, you always get wet if you were on the M/Way and it rained... LOL... Mitsibishi engine though... which refused to die... I killed the clutch first...

I never see Fiat Unos any more, especially the original shape ones (probably all rusted away!). And how about these? Fiat Strada! I'd like one. If I could find one. Too shonky even for the mini-cabbers. The Nissan Bluebird. I'd like a ZX Turbo one. Teenage Mutant Ninja Tercels. Just vanished. But then they weren't that popular in the first place really... And where have these all disappeared to?
