Dispatcher: It didn't take us THAT long to catch Dillinger. Another reason why that flick was such a groaner. Dillinger was never caught on the highway. He had John Lingenfelter's grandfather turning wrenches for him back then! They caught Dillinger on the sidewalk coming out the turnstiles after watching a movie in a cinema. "Lady in red," ring a bell to anyone?

I don't think where they caught dillinger was in any way relevent, all that was relevent was how long it took to catch him.
The term 'us' was assumably used as a catch all for 'all law enforcement'.

"It's a clean machine" "It's clean enough" "Not bad for homegrown" "It's a little bit more than that, sonny" "You must have something special here. Gee mister, I bet it's pretty quick" "You wanna find out?" "Well ordinarily I'd jump at the ahhh....opportunity. But the thing is, I'm just not in the habit of seeing the Chevy work against a two-bit piece o'junk" "Make it $50" "Make it three yards ($300) motherf*cker, and we'll have us an automobile race" 40 years old next year. My favourite film, ever.

I don't think where they caught dillinger was in any way relevent, all that was relevent was how long it took to catch him. VW, that was said in the middle of a car chase! Dilly weren't caught in a car chase. The reference is obtuse. So, obtuse in fact, because it took the FBI fricking FOREVER to catch Dillinger. He was quite popular in fact with the locals, he was protected by local sheriffs and police oft-times, as no one liked the robber banks back then, and he was careful not to kill any innocents. Thus, a criminal who was on the loose for years is a REALLY BAD analogy in a car movie for a quick capture! Fail! PS, you must be the only guy in the universe to stand up for Hal Needham movie dialogue, good on you for that, mate! ;D

it took the FBI fricking FOREVER to catch Dillinger. Really? Since he was caught does that mean that you have been able to put an actual time-span to 'forever' ? I always thought it was one of those infinte (never ending) things! ;D ;D ;D

LOL, yeah, you're right, Baz. Forever was an exaggeration. It took almost 2 years for the G-men to get Dillinger. By which time, Cannonball Run would have been over for approximately 1 year, 11 months, 30 days, and 22 hours. ;D

I think your over thinking the situation ;D Cops trying to catch someone, doesnt matter who, or how, or if its a car/horse/foot chase or a paper chase. Its taking them a while so they reference that by saying 'it didnt take us (law enforcement) this long to catch (any criminal caught in any way but a case that took a long time)'. It doesnt matter when the line was said, the car chase is irelevant to the statement. All they are getting at is the time frame.

Is everyone forgetting: That's what hurts! It's one of our V8s! and "Fifi: They say people don't believe in heroes anymore. Well damn them! You and me, Max, we're gonna give them back their heroes! Max: Ah, Fif. Do you really expect me to go for that curse word? Fifi: You gotta admit I sounded good there for a minute, huh? " and the best one: Goose: [via radio] Max. Max: [via radio] Go ahead. Goose: We are 100% SNAFU. Max: You ok? Goose: Nothin' a year in the tropics wouldn't fix. Max: Much damage? Nightrider: [via radio] You should see the damage, bronze. Huh? metal damage, brain damage. Heheheh. You listen bronze. I am the Nightrider. I'm a fuel injected suicide machine. I am the rocker, I am the roller, I am the out-of-controller! I'm the Nightrider, baby, [unintelligible] Nightrider: , and we ain't never comin' back! Although I may be defeating the purpose of the one liner. Also please forgive the lack of picture but there aren't many Mad max pictures left to see.

"Kick it in the guts, Murray!" "She's the last of the V8s!!" "Shut the gate on this one Maxy, it's the duck's guts." What always makes me laugh is the line: "It's got phase four heads, twin overhead cams, sucks nitro, 600 horsepower through the wheels" The Phase Four GTHO never officially existed, and the motors that were slated for the Phase Fours were pretty much identical to the Phase Three. But the real giggle is that no 351 Clevelands ever had twin overhead cams. Methinks the writers were just throwing car terms at the script. You'd think Murray the underground mechanic would've known that ;D

My personnal fave is probably " RAM THE F*CKERS ! " about halfway through the payroll blag by the late great Richard Burton in the the classic british gangster film 'Villain' . Check out the amount of big Brit retro tin in this clip ....
