Just an idea everybody.....
If you had the chance to buy a Merc 190 (great body, shot engine & 'box) what engine would you throw in to make it a decent low-budget track day car?

Rover V8 and manual box, or a Ford V6 ( 2.9 24v Cossie is good for 200 BHP as standard)

The Cosworth's a little predictable and probably a very expensive route surely? Good engine and you could make a great car, just that it would be very predictable, and as I say, it can't be easy to find a 190 Cosworth's engine and running gear? The modern equivelant to the 190 would be the C Class, wouldn't it, now they have a range of four cylinder, supercharged 'Kompressor' engines, which as standard only have up to about 160 horses, but are set up for refinement and economy I'd imagine, some throttle bodies and maybe messing with the supercharger and you could get a bit higher, and I dare say you could lighten up the 190 to make good use of that power anyway, but they also have a range of V6s that go up to around 230 horses as standard according to Merc UK's website, maybe those would fit along with the gearbox and back axle, with a bit of tinkering? Now tinker the engine a little, maybe add a supercharger to that V6, and you could have a very powerful 190 without having to track down all that rare, original 190 Cosworth stuff, and I dare say you could either buy all that direct from Mercedes or find a crash damaged written-off V6 C-Class somewhere to rob for bits. Just a thought.

with something like this, I'd chuck in what I've got lying around ;D. In the shed at work there is; a 2ltr merc twink from a late 124, i think there's still a 2.6 merc six-shooter, or a 300te motor. might have some billies/konis in there as well along with a cossie type body kit
