Some newer pics... The moment we'd worked a long time for, starting up.... And the next memorable bit, on its first train in four years.. And from a different perspective....

Finally got the old girl working over the last weekend; not perfect but we're getting there. Oil change wasn't too bad, only 100 gallons used and had to buy a new suction/delivery pump, all in all we got change from £1000...... ;D Rad fan played up but nowt a large lump hammer and screwdriver wouldn't cure (and it did). Short movie (not by me, I was in the cab), the beast appears 1:23 onwards.... The local "Hells Bumblebees" providing a 'soundtrack'......

if the filters are centrifugal ones they are serviced by stripping and cleaning them not replacing but am not sure if they are used on these as the ones I was involved with were usually on marine diesels, about 2 foot high and 18 inch diameter www.mann-hummel.com/mhuk/index.html?iKeys=5.1.1689.0.0ttfn glenn

Lovely stuff. I always used to love hearing these old beasts snarling up out of the coking works near me, pulling what seemed to be an endless stream of wagons. It's a sound I love and always reminds me of childhood.
Best of luck with her, hope she behaves!

Not a lot has happened recently thanks to work commitments with the restoration team, but the old thing did throw her teddies out the other weekend with an annoying electrical fault that shut the engine down when trying to take power, but in one direction only. Its intermittent as well, just to make life interesting, so it looks like I'll have my work cut out to sort it out. Let you know what happens....

Had lots of fun with the electrical fault, still havn't fully sorted it but a light spring in the right relay stopped the fault from occurring. Anyway, we've had lots of internal fiddling with wiring and control systems, culminating in September's Gala weekend; Specially for that I hade these Depot Plaques for Dereham... And a quick test run the Friday evening with 50019 and seven Mk2 coaches as ballast..... The fun continues...

Of all the diesels with 'noses', you can keep your Deltics and Whistlers, it's always been Tractors for me. This is a cracker!

Tractor- tastic! Love these beasties. Chap at work is a long time member of the Growler Group (snigger) at Toddington, I really must take myself down there and get involved.

We've had a good year so far, getting 37003 out on the 1st of Jan for the 'Mince Pie Specials', the 2nd having a 450t load of six Mk2 coaches and 2 x 47's to warm her up a bit. During Feb the line gets a shakedown with a 'Mixed Traffic' event which wakes up the home fleet and allows some of the more 'odd' stuff to happen;
and then we had the biggie, with 55022 and 40135 visiting from the East Lancashire Railway and 37682 coming from DRS.
(the last train has 5,300Bhp on the front.....)
All good stuff, with more to come. Oh, and I may be getting another one to look after and play with! ;D
