I love thing Steve, it's what I had planned to do with my ever stagnant magnum. To be honest I've lost that much mojo that I'm thinking of selling the Daimler engine and continuing with the twink I have in mine too, it just seems much easier in the long run. (Plus I'm incredibly lazy). If you need another engine keep me in mind, it's still on the pallet and all wrapped up from when I bought it.....[/ashamed] Dude I may take you up on that! Will pm you soon ;-) Minor update incoming once I've finished work ......... That was a long day ššš I'm still alive, the car is still with me and progress in some form or another has happened since I last checked in all be it at a snail's pace! Daimler motor has been put on the back burner indefinitely due to cost, Twink is back in the car and will be staying for the foreseeable future BUT there is a Chevy SBC shaped item that may make it's way in there at some point.....another case of money stopping me but I have the motor so just need the stars to align š aside from that the fuel tank is out to be nodded for internal fuel pump so I can ditch the horrid setup I've had in there years cos it's traveller looking and noisy with it so should gain a bit of comfort back. The bonnet has been undergoing modifications for Can-Am extractor vents which I've only been doing on and off this past year š but finally making headway this past weekend so hopefully this will mark a change for me and I can get back into it! Miss driving this car so much you can't believe! Pics will be re-added to this thread as soon as I either fix photobucket or find another way āŗ Peace Steve |

Progress came to a complete dead stop. I'd decided to stay with the missus the night lockdown was announced and I've been living here ever since! Didn't work for several months, rarely left the house and only did for my own sanity  but alas didn't set foot on the parents property for almost 6mths and not really touched the car since then due to life and other distractions........four wheeled OR house related! Finally got time to go over and tidy up around the car so I could wheel it out into sunlight around June 2021     I'd sold the wheels off it and not long after that the Recaro leather seats went too, both were due to be changed anyway to suit my planned "Can-Am wannabe" look so I'd hoped it would spur me on to start working on the car again but it still hasn't happened  Here we are....2023......I've now owned this thing for double-digits years and I can't keep leaving it covered in dust with a half finished plan surrounding it in part form SO hopefully I will be cracking back on with it very soon! The unfinished heads are now with me at home to continue sorting the ports then I'll organise getting the faces skimmed and drilled for screw-in rocker studs so they can go back on the engine. That itself will need stripping down again as I'm unhappy with a few things that I'd like to take care of before it gets buttoned up properly then back in the car it goes! Long winded update = complete. Thanks for reading |

Completely forgot to add this little gem I found by chance at beaulieu autojumble  An original American Racing aluminium spoiler that is real close to the type fitted to the Can-Am although I'm not 100% sure the width is absolutely correct  On the fence about using it still but a cool piece non the less....shall ponder it some more |

Thanks dude The spoiler was a purchase I just couldn't pass up but not entirely sure on using it yet sooooooo we shall see Work behind the scenes that never got photographed were mocking up for hydraulic clutch setup using an aftermarket internal slave cylinder arrangement along with a Mini master cylinder which should work out just right as long as I get mounting point on the pedal just right, will need some fab work on bulkhead to mount the master cyl but I'm confident it'll fit ok. Most likely losing the factory brake servo/master setup for space and go either remote servo or just straight up manual brakes...I've yet to decide that but eitherway the brakes will be pretty stout as I will be using volvo 4-pot calipers for the front to go along with Renault 21 discs as proven to work by B-8-D in the past and standard scimitar rear drums. Oh yea.....the rear axle got a haircut some time back and has lost its original mounts in prep for some more Viva-orientated replacements A before shot  And annoyingly I don't have an after shot to hand  I'd stripped it all ready to go off and be worked on but got let down so it's been thrown in the corner waiting for another plan to come together. I can report the diff was in good condition so that'll go again (unless a jag powerlok appears  ) but the hubs absolutely refused to part ways with the halfshafts despite use of two different pullers, heat and cold in varying uses and multiple big f*** off hammers! Another headache for another day |

Re the Jag hubs.
I had to use a 30 ton press to shift the last ones I removed.
Nice build. No wing for me, sleeper for the win.

Great to see the update, fair play for getting out there with it again. The Can-Am wing really is an opinion divider, even on the actual thing they look a bit incongruous to the rest of the styling. Looking forward to following along with any and all progress

Sounds like water got in that rocker cover? I'd personally change all the valves, they don't cost that much and a dropped valve will destroy an engine. Wouldn't surprise me if its had a blown hg at some point in its life given how much of a mess it was internally, all bar three pistons the top rings had broken into multiple pieces and fell off upon removal suggesting a hard previous life.....yet still managed to summon up enough compression to run briefly on 8cyls when we fired it up on the floor I've inspected the rest of the valves and they should go again for now, I'm not throwing money at this engine as I'm only considering it a training wheels V8 till something more 327/350 shaped appears as I'd like to do a more RPM-orientated build at a later date |

Right then.........
Gonna try updating this thread more often as this car has been on my mind alot as of late due to reasons close to me
A few months ago myself, the missus and a great bunch of lads went off to the states to follow a little event known as Hot Rod Drag Week and we all had a blast! Worth every penny and fully intend to go back in the future BUT it opened my eyes a bit more to the sheer amount of easy horsepower available....and how little home-grown we have here! The little 305 is not the choice people would make to go anywhere fast but its what I have, I've already put money into it sooooooo its going to stay but I have decided to go balls out and turbo it instead of a possibly lackluster NA build. I have had a turbo in stock waiting for the right engine to hang it off of so thats hopefully taken care of but I had no means of fueling it easily hence the Holley SuperSniper EFI setup along with Holley Hyperspark distributor setup to match which kills two birds with one stone.
The main reason this all became a "thing" again beside a passing thought as its been these past few years is.....well......my dad died, he was important to me and I really wish he was still gonna be here when the car was finished as he'd been with me from day one helping where needed and was the reason I got into old cars
I miss him.
I want this done.
