Another minor update  Gave the thing a damm good clean, t-cut&polish last weekend.....kinda pointless as it was covered in sh!t again by tuesday! Here it is all shiny ;D  I aint cleaned the car properly since before the gathering last year, only a wash every now and again......and it showed! The bonnet, roof and boot lid were all very faded but now have a bit more colour  Biggest problem i have now is i cant cut the paintwork back much more simply cos there aint much paint left  its almost thru to primer in a couple of spots(not due to me may i add) so this year may well end up with a respray at some point. To that end i decided i should really get on with trying to sort out the ratty bodywork that i started sorting but never finished.....beginning with the o/s/f wing. The wingtop was peppered with holes including a couple of big 'uns that i plated, well i found a few more during the course of today but they have been attended to now and have almost finished shaping the ickle bit of filler on top......   Should hopefully finish this and have some primer on it by end of tomorrow, along with welding up where the outter and inner wing meet. I had cut out a load of grot there but in the rush to start using the car after the engine conversion was done i just covered the holes with ducktape  need to cut and shape some plates but shouldnt be too much hassle. Hopefully more tomorrow Steve  |

Thanks Leigh it really is horrid work to me, I'm happy when elbow deep in an engine not covered head to toe in filler dust Well i kinda finished the wing top, it aint pretty but its ten times better than it was.....     There are low spots where i fillered and flatted too much back, and the paint was just an old can i had left over from a previous bike project which aint even close to original but will do the job for now. Today i thought i would sort out mounting the ecu to the bulkhead, its been sitting in the footwell since the engine was put in and just got on everyones nerves as the birds nest of wiring was a bit of a challenge to avoid when getting in......i was dreading someone getting in and ripping the whole lot out of the ecu plug  . I cut a simple cross shaped piece out of ally and offered it up after a bit of bending....  Looking good, i did a quick mock up in the car and marked the bolt holes up then gave the bracket and the ecu a coat or two of satin black....  Then got the lot back in there, ive still got to tidy up the engine loom at some point so it will be coming back out soon but looking alot tidier now  One last job today was to sort out the rear parcel shelf. The shelf is just a vinyl covered board that sits between the rear screen and the rear seat back, but when i bought the car the vinyl had started to come away from the board so i took it out with the intention of re-trimming at a later date. I decided to try and stretch the vinyl back into place but it had gone quite hard and even with heat applied it just wouldnt go back where it should so have ripped it off and decided for now to just paint the board black for now and perhaps sticker bomb it at some point with some period looking transfers   More at some point Steve |

You should have painted the top of the wing back to the door shut. Then it'd blend in a bit better. But top work on the actual bodywork steve, looks a 1000 times better! Well done!  ECU mount is tidy too! Keep it up! |

Better to have a mismatched wing than a perforated one man so good job there. ECU is a job I must do on the GT as mine, like yours, is being kicked around the passenger footwell. Thing I like about the original parcel shelf is the moulded centre that comes down between the rear seats, looks good in black too and much better than cracked vinyl!

There are low spots where I fillered and flatted too much back, tip for you, ever watched programs like Overhaulin, Wreck to Riches (USA NOT UK), American Hotrod etc etc, they don't have islands of filler all over the place, they cover the whole sectin in goop and then flat that back till the whole section is smooth. if you see metal, that is a high spot, flat back till you jaut about see the metal, don't expose it. then a good filler primer, and you wont see them nice car btw. |

Thanks for the comments chaps I know the the wing repairs are a bit all over the place but i freely admit that I'm short on paitence when it comes to doing stuff like that, it will get a goind over again soonish so aint that fussed......at least there aint a slab of rusty metal staring you in the face now ;D Today i decided to start fitting my new(to me)front seats, decided to do the passenger side first for two reasons 1: if it all went t!ts up i would still be able to use the car and 2: the runners were easier to modify ;D So, one seat out.....  Offered up the new seat, cut up some lengths of steel and made a pair of bars to bolt to the existing floor mounts and then marked where the seat had to go. Ended up using the existing rear mounting studs that were on the seat runners, bolted to the rear bar and just welded the front bar to the runners. I will need to go over the runners&mounts with some paint as some point but its all bolted in now. So, heres one KFW-Edition figure huggin', eye bleedin' brown seat ;D ....  Tis very comfy, yet firm Will have a crack at the other side tomorrow, it has a different set of runners fitted which will need alot of faffing about with before i will be able mock it up but hoping that i can use the same method of mounting as the passenger side....we shall see. Oh yea, here's what a numpty that doesnt own a welding mask at present looks like......  ;D ;D Steve |

Right then...... As of last week the Viva is now off the road, I'm so skint now that i couldnt afford to re-insure it so its gotta sit around until i got another job and to add to that ive currently got quite a full garage so its got to live outside on the drive which it aint happy about. I made the mistake of looking in through the drivers-side window today whilst passing......  The windscreen seal is shot, i knew it was and had intended to get the tarp over the car before the rain came but kinda forgot Well i couldnt leave it like that so ripped out the seats and carpet followed by the remains of the sound deadening  The original sound deadening isnt going back in as it just absorbs water and creates flintstone floorpans ;D but have got some other stuff to put in there which will keep a bit of the noise down but wont absorb fluids The carpet is a bit on the tatty side..  This will get a good clean and perhaps dying black if i feel the urge as ive never liked the faded puke yellow its in as standard.....its not like I'm gonna ruining a perfect original carpet Had to empty the drivers-side floorpans so drilled a 6mm hole at the lowest point front and rear, but the front pans on both sides look like they will need a bit of attention soon as they have both been plated from the outside  i'll have a crack at them before it all goes back together.   As the car had been standing for a week i though it might be a good idea to fire it up and let it get up to temp, here's a little vid for you More soon Steve |

I hear ya mate, i knew there was some rot there sometime ago but just ignored it as i knew id end up cleaning it all up and finding loads of holes i couldnt weld up cos i didnt have a welder on hand......but thats changed now so gonna sort it all out and perhaps order some of that universal windscreen seal from woolies |

I also gotta look forward to doing a plate on each rear innerwing where the factory seatbelt mounts are(but never used  ), both sides have been plated already but the rust wasnt cut out and as such has just spread Oh the joys of Viva ownership!! |

Cleared all the curse word out of the drivers footwell and had a bit of a prod about....   The bit by the throttle pedal mount is gonna be a tad tricky to do from the inside so may cut the bottom off the front wing and do it from outside, the other holes should be easy to sort Not half as bad as i thought, will prob start chopping nastiness out at the weekend.
