I don't think its been mentioned too much but it is very important. Government are up to their old tricks and may make it harder for modded cars to stay on the road and i personally have sneaky suspicion that the have more up their sleeve for tax exempt classics etc, thats another theory. this is coming from PPC Mag who keep mentioning about this. Will Holmans editorial taliking about Cadwell park event They had mentioned this the month before too but i'd been too lazy/busy to do owt about it! Then what would we do/talk about?! heading to writetothem.com right now...

just imagine, there would be a drastic reduction in the number of cars on the road. The modified car scene is big business, and there are a lot of cars that are modifed, they owuldent be able to restric it to classics if they did do it. What about all the newer cars that are chipped with induction kits and back boxes?

I hope they don't go over the top with it, they risk damaging something which is a real asset to this country - its automotive engineering skills. It will be a real shame if they are short-sighted enough to want to wipe out DIY car tinkering as that is where the Keith Duckworths, Gordon Murrays, Colin Chapmans, Alex Issigonis', Jim Randles, etc etc etc all got started, and where most of the boffins at Ricardo, Prodrive, all the F1 teams based in the UK, got an interest in the first place.
OK I know Gordon Murray grew up in S Africa.

I think this sort of cobblers was only a matter of time, the end of free re-tests and all that curse word of having the DVLA spylink set up for MOTs is the first step of many crazy bureaucratic stages that they no doubt have in store for us, evil, evil car scum of the earth car owners, even worse, old car owners!!

Yeah i think it is the same bag HoTWire but felt guilty when i'd ignored it last months in PPC. We know how dangerous DVLA, dopey suits drinking cheap beerin the commons , and the plod are and all that red tape the have in stock, so i put my money where my mouth is now. heres my letter sure yous can do better, just wanted to get it sent really. Tuesday 20 December 2005 Dear Linda Riordan, Following reading Practical Performance Car Magazine, A car enthusiast engeneering magazine. It has come to my attention that the Government is proposing to introduce an SVA test to all modified vehicles, this could mean a lot of work and moreimportantly some cars taken off the road if it is not implemented correctly. Even though most modified cars I know of are modified for safety and lovingly looked after and maintained by their owners. Safety feature include better brakes, better suspension and newer parts for older cars. Cars are thoroughly checked at an MOT, and these have become stricter and more expensive now possibly needing to pay twice, as a free retest is now impossible meaning that all MOT'd cars should be safe. The Modified car market is big business, from a wealth of magazines to retailers and custom garages and taking this away would have an impact on the economy. It is already difficult to run a car due to escallated fuel prices, insurance and vehicle tax. There is a lot of responsible people, myself included who passionately maintain their classic and modified cars as an hobby. Please contact the DVLA to ask about these proposals. taking away our hobbies would be disasterous. Thank you. Yours sincerely, Mark R writetothem.com

Very good point Mr! so very true, it's 'Government' medalling that has the potential to kill off something which is so important to a heck of a lot of people Reanimation, Some very valid points made there fella, especially that the bulk of modified cars are most likely to be better maintained than most newer cars, most newer cars getting treated as throw-away appliances rather that someone's pride and joy. Hopefully sense will prevail, but this is the current Labour Goverment has a sense deficiency.

Send him/her some abuse!!! Is that a government-supported site? Suppose it must be, all it does is hold the MP's contact details, and generates a letter. You put in your post code, (use your mates if you live in france), type the text, then review it in you email inbox, one click and its gone. Fantastic

Might drop the local MP a line about this, it's been months since I had David Cairns wishing I would move to another district/country and give him peace! ;D Seriously though, there's no reason we shouldn't get onto them about this sort of thing, if they want us to believe we live in a democracy then they're going to have going over our heads and doing exactly what we don't want, which has happened a fair bit since Tony got into power, and a fair bit when the Tories were in power too. What we really need is a show of strength, every time they think they have power over us, we have to show them that we have as much power over them and can drag them out of their comfy jobs any time we bloody well like, and showing them that their constiuents will not support them is a minor way to do that. Personally I'd have a revolution, storm parliament, overthrow the lying b*stards and rule ourselves via true socialist democracy, but seeing as that sort of thing takes time to plan out we might as well write to parliament in the mean time! ;D
