ok.... so maybe there was a little excess and over enthusiasm in the custom builds of the 70's ....... but these were the times of individualism and self expression..... long before the manufacturers turned cars into unisex fashion items. Look what you got today.... kids putting devil horn spoilers and bad boy bonnets on in a desperate attempt to turn a car (or should I say a van with windows in it) into something a little more exciting than his mate's. When in the 70's he'd have got bad ass styling and a shark nose front as standard.
Ban euro-box styling on the grounds of it being terminally uninspiring and bring back 70's bad asss I say!!!

Crikey, you lot are making my ideas look tame! I was thinking a white flash up the side and a light over the axle. This is where i'm at now but I feel it's not enough although where do I stop before it all goes a bit OTT. This one's for you Rich, guess who the bloke in the ladies clothes is....

Iffy 70's stylee "custom paint" FTW - the full-on door mural for the brave? All the special paint & kit you could ever dream of is available here: www.custompaintshop.co.ukIf you restrict it to one panel, it won't be too hard to sand it down and paint over it when everybody laughs at you either ;D

This one's for you Rich, guess who the bloke in the ladies clothes is.... That Viva's a peach! Guess you've seen Lee's blown hemi powered one. Are you keeping it gold or changing the colour? You're spot-on with the "cruising light" but I reckon a pair of Thrush side-pipes are needed too. How about a Richard Grant louvered cover over the rear window (or is that 80s, the memory is starting to go!). As for the interior, a gold draylon retrim would be right on period along with a chain-llink Grant wheel. Always loved your Dad's Minor Pickup. I had one around the same time but nowhere near your Dad's building skills. Don't suppose you have any scanned pics of his Model-Y?

jayps, there was a time when i'd cringe at cars like that but not any more. Great pics.
Rich, is that the yellow one? It's staying gold and i think it'll end up with sidepipes. I have no pics of the Y on the computer and dad only has a few at home. He's still in contact with the present owner so it may return one day. I'd like to see it come home.

This: I still oned and driven to shows regularly and looks beautiful. Way cool. Took a picture at a show my dad said his name is sonething Bordichino or something but he struggled to try and remember. How cool is that to still own the car you built that long ago and not even change it. Way cool. And 10+ Retro Rides respectz

So far...... 70's naffness is turning out to be norties cool!! Mk1 Trannies and CF's have tons more potential for coolness than any modern van. Is too bad that they're like rockin' horse sh*t nowadays.

I think you could do a modern van in 70's stylee ok, especially as there are a number of sport versions around these days so you could leave the engine alone, the less "bubbly" shaped ones like the transit and sprinter would work ok i think.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

This is awesome! Last taxed 1982, it's on the DVLA records but is it still about? This ones a sad story built around 77 and was a stunner in its day ,it was last seen with rusty side pipes and rotten wheels in sw London ,it then appeared on a dodgy "arfur daley forecourt" in a dreadful state and disappeared ,soon to be seen on the back on scrap lorry on its way to meet its maker . Id say its deffo not around it was as rusty as they come ,sad and such a shame looking at the amount of work that had gone into it. The Baldy viva van has surely done the rounds ,and has been rebuilt more than once.Glad to see its still with us .
