What can I say, about this project?
It is my favourite project I have done. Again it is a car I found on a well known online auction site. And again it is a car I did not win ( see other projects) I wanted this car so bad I would have paid silly money for it. I had a massive argument with my wife over this car, so I didn't bid on it, but emailed the guy to say I was interested in it if he was let down by winner.
Guess what - the winner turned up and kicked the tyres, and was expecting a mint car - what plank.
Steve called me to tell me the good news, as he knew I was interested from the start. I managed to get it for £500, to my wifes annoyance. She hates all my projects, because they remain in a state of unfinished-ness.
As I have stated on other projects here on this site. I have a knack of finding rare cars. This car is one of them.
For one, it's an Alfasud which makes it as rare as hens teeth - there are only reportedly 36 of these cars left in the UK according to AROC Alfa Romeo Owners Club and the Sud register. What makes mine special is it's a 1.3Ti and not a 1.5Ti There were ever only 1 1.3Ti's for ever 10 1.5Ti imported into this country, so that's double as rare. My Sud has a Alfa Style Body kit (from new) now this was a very expensive extra on this car and there is only about 4 of these cars in the world. Then you add factor into the mix like mileage of genuine back up 26,225 and that my sud had been breathed on by Autodelta in London, who fitted high lifting cams and a proper exhaust and a 1.2Ti gearbox - this car has all the makings of a rare survivor. The biggest rarity is it's never - yes NEVER been welded until now.
However! my Sud has to take a slight back seat at the minute as my main daily driver (Skoda Octavia RS) is currently up on stands. the oil pump went and took out the turbo bearings and seals ouch!
I had her MOT tested, as I bought her from a guy who lost his driving license for speedy (now that's what I like to hear about a car I'm buying).
I have currently torn my hair out trying to find bits for this car and have managed to fix or replace
Set of rear wheel spacers
bonnet
Bonnet hinges
bonnet release cable and mech
the spare alloy in boot to make a set of 5 sprint speedlines
3 of the front lights due to reflector corrosion
fix hatch lock
replaced all bulbs
fixed drivers door - was hanging wrong
drivers door window regulator
Drivers door card
Rear Discs and pads
Front Discs and Pads
Clutch, Friction plate and bearing
Carpet
Rear hatch spoiler twice as I snapped a stud on first one bought
Grill and badge
Repaired Ansa Exhaust which wasn't on car when bough but with it
Front lower ball joins and wishbones
replaced the horn with Ferrari twin air-horns
A spot of soldering on an front bumper mounted indicator
Then she has had a full service - oil filters, anti freeze, plugs, leads and dizzy, rotor arm and wiper blades
She's good to go - Fully comp for £80 and peanuts to tax
Just had a quote to respray her and do the minor bit of bodywork too.
The list was Ma Hassive. I am sure the tester took one look at it and decided he hated it. The MOT Tester was a pillock as he failed the Headlights, Wipers, Horn, just because he didn't know how to turn them on? and he failed parking brake as it had no efficiency at all when he pulled the lever. That will teach him for putting the rollers under the back wheels, when the brakes are inboard front brakes then won't it. - I will be telling VOSA about this idiot in due course.
I have been out yesterday to tie up a few loose end on the I.C.E. I have put the Alpine ipod head-unit from my Skoda in the Sud and wired her all up.
I just have to get a new drivers seat - but I know someone with one, so not worried. Enjoy the piccies
This is how I bought her with no tax and test from online auction. Notice the horrific rear spoiler, someone had literally made in their dads shed? what were they thinking??? Also the rear wheel are hiding somewhat and needed some spacers to bring them out from under the arches.
Silly spoiler Off and a nice wash to see what it's like.
She is a really straight car with very minor scratches and marks - but I have chosen to respray her as she will be worth at least £4500-£5500 done.
Interior is very original. I have put my alpine head unit in but concealed under the dash near steering wheel and putting a 1980 - pioneer head unit in the centre dash mount so it looks standard.
Exhaust going back on
First bit of welding the car has EVER! had! not because of corrosion either due to a crack in the original welding on the weak point on the inner wing/struts through vibration.
Under the bonnet lurk very angry Italian horses - not the black substance around the engine bay - this is under-seal, which was pt on when the fiberglass wings were on I presume The only bit of rust corrosion is at the bottom of the window pillars. the car is otherwise rust free and is in excellent condition
This next video was done before the exhaust was changed and the clutch bearing was cracking away unless pedal was pushed down. She is a sweet little engine with loads of power.
My Ferrari air horns instead of the little meep meep (roadrunner sound)
Now Lancia didn't make a 2 door Integrale but the Sud is exactly that with the body kit on.
Hope you enjoyed this project as much as me. Will post more pictures of it when she resprayed
