Ever get p1ssed off with old cars and think to sell them all and go and but a new plastic non maintanance tree loving modern sack of sh1t? I'm having thease thoughts today  Does this point come in every retroboys life? |

:)I must admit, my life would be far easier if I didn't love old Skodas. Who in their right mind would consider restoring this?:  It'll cost far more to do than I'll get back and will take up far more time than I really should spend. There are times when the sh!t heaps frustrate me so that I end up looking like this:  But in the end I end up smiling because I get a car looking like this:  ....which to me is worth far more in smiles than the whole Kia factory let alone a new Rio!  |

::)Know exactly how you feel.I've spent the last 20 years restoring and rebuilding any number of retro stuff.Early this year i sold 6 of my 7 projects and bought myself a modern. With working in the trade and doing this stuff as a hobby it's only a matter of time i'm afraid. Good luck to any of you lot who can keep their mojo up,mines done a runner.  |

Get a half decent modern and then work on the retro as a hobby not a necessity.
You obviously define what half decent is, but modern doesn't have to mean Kia.
I was even looking at a modern Hyundai Sonata in traffic the other day thinking it would make a neat mini-VIP ride. With the depreciation on those things you can pick one up for loose change. No idea on reliability on them.
Touch wood the Lexus has been fine since purchase.

we sold our 2000 car, now are 'moderns' are 1995 at the newest. and we're enjoying lovely reliability, MPG, cheap servicing parts and no worries.
Mojo is a fluctuating thing. but the amount of money and soul a tupperware box with wheels will drain from you only fluctuates between A LOT and ALL YOU HAVE. beware the tupperware!

I've ran a modern and a retro for the last 3 years or so. I did a long, long stint of running old cars and because I couldn't fix them myself I really did get sick of them not starting and breaking down on the way to job interviews and stuff.
Because I've got both now I think of my e21 as a classic, retro car that I can enjoy and appreciate. If it won't start one morning I don't hate it as I can get in my modern and go to work.
I had a ma61 Supra as my only car, which I'd love to own now but back then I just used to think of it as "that old heap that never starts". I ended up hating it because of the amount of times I was late for work or seeing the look of horror on peoples faces as petrol would pee out the tank in petrol stations if I put more than £15 in it.

The Mojo fail was caused by a rear wheel cylinder fail on the golf. I'm a bit of a drama queen realy as I'm sure that is about the only thing which will ever go wrong with it.
I was given a lift to the motor factors in a mk4 golf, and i thought "bet this never goes wrong" but on the way back from the pub just now - it did , so it just proves that all cars are curse word no matter what you do.
Also I'm typing this from the drivers seat of the 911, what a f-king cool car. Kia's just don't have dials like this, or even smell like this.

Best thing is a modern for daily duties and keep the retro as a hobby fella, pretty sure I would get P1ssed off using any of my older motors as a daily for sure.
As for Hyundai's I ahve a 06 coupe and its been the most reliable modern I have had out of this list any how:
2000 Citroen Picasso
97 Ford Focus
05 Ford Focus
2001 Ford Modero TDCI
02 Astra
All of the above gave me hassle.
