I have a problem with water spots. No, thats not a euphemism meaning I am getting old and incontinent but when I wash my cars unless I dry the mothers right off 100% I get nasty deposits on the paint from the criminally hard tap water. So I have tried something new. No Rinse Car Wash. Sounds like that QVC rubbish again, right? But nay. This is the latest detailing phenomenon to sweep the internet and you heard it here first. Basically its come from the US of A where many states have increasing eco legislation and others are damn hot making car washing tricky without the same issues I have had - water spots. So here's the product www.motorgeek.co.uk/optimum-rinse-wash-shine-sizes-with-free-measure-p-242.htmlHere a video of a chap showing you how it works I was concerned about this being damaging to paint and what have you but some guy on Detailing World has been doing his and his wife's car with it for like a year now and no problems with swirl or marking (and if anyone would spot it then it would be those guys, right?) so I felt convinced enough to splash out on some. So I have been having a go with it. I have to say I am pretty impressed. I used a ton less water to wash my car, I washed it in less time and the results were way better due to no damn water spots! apologies for modern content coming up... Before: Now when I say "severe water spots" this is what I mean.... the car's paint looks like a whore's bed sheet brake dusty wheels followed the process and in 15 minutes or so I had this all the brake dust was off OK without having to use a specific wheel cleaner And this morning, no water spots have formed. Bang on. So not only am I saving the planet one car wash at a time, but I get a better result and less effort. I am cautiously pleased.

That looks pretty darn snazzy, I have the same problem when I wash my car, it usually looks dirtier after I've washed it! So I might give this stuff a try. Cheers for the tip Akku!

there are also some entirely waterless washes available now too. I remain sceptical, but I hear that there are some good ones out now.
I washed my mum's RAV4 when I went over to their place, and I washed the car in the garage the amount of water you use is so little it left a couple of damp bits of concrete is all.

Does it do anything good or bad to the car glass after you have finished? How does it work with the wiper? Any smearing?

I just wash as normal, with a bucket and sponge. don't use too much water and then wipe over with a microfiber cloth and it dries perfect. Super quick, gets it spotless and no water marks at all. You know all the expensive wheel cleaners? And the great 'pro' acid cleaners? The active ingedient is the same as in brick acid Brick acid is also quite cheap, spray it on, wait 30 seconds or so and hose off. don't let it dry, so don't use on hot wheels. Stubbern stuff may need a little brushing. Works wonders though.

No smearing on the glass s far as I can tell but I haven't used the wipers much today. Unlike the QVC type products which contain a lot of junk to make the car shiny (like silicone) which isn't great for glass for one, this is pretty much all detergent. It smells like it belongs in a hospital ward rather than how most car stuff smells of strawberry or something these days so they haven't even put a scent in it.

This I would be concerned might result in swirling, especially in softer paints like old school cellulose or 1k clears. This stuff "lifts" the dirt before you dry. Its like magic. The drying cloth is as clean when you finish as when you started. All the dirt gets in the water you sponge off when you go back with the sponge if you see what I mean. Clever stuff.

No problems as of yet, but I'm very carefull to get all teh dirt of first.
Ive not long had the car, i washed then power polished it when i got it. I wash it at least once a week not, with a good waxing after every wash. I'm trying to build up some protection to the paint to stop future dirt getting too stuck.
My car was only £250 though. Unfortunately its also black so shows up every mark.

Just watched the vid. I'm sure he knows what he's doing, but i never go back and forwards with any cloth or sponge. In my work i have to wash residue of shiny surfaces all the time, to get it right and get it done quick you can only work in one direction. After every swipe you have to rinse. Never lift the sponge and put it back on the surface without rinsing it first. Otherwise you just end up smeering it about. Intreagued though, might give some a try, i need some new shampoo anyway

That looks impressive! I am dreadful at cleaning cars - I get at least one crescent of dirt where I've missed it with the sponge, don't chammy it off so I get water spots and usually end up soaked to the skin..
I think this stuff would make life easier, although it wouldn't make me any less curse word at the actual cleaning, I suspect.

apparently dish washer rinse agent works well. my boss uses it on his saab and i have to say it always looks spotless. doesnt appear to have any ill effects on the paint either

I presume thats a water softener effectively? As my method of selecting dish washer tablets is "what is cheapest" I don't know much about them LOL

I spray a little quick detailer on a micro-fibre cloth after washing, gets rid of water marks quickly and puts on a layer of sealant, but the car has to dry a bit first.
This product looks good, what kind of protection does it leave on the car after drying though?

I presume thats a water softener effectively? No, it's a 'water wetter' which reduces the surface tension, stopping the water from beading and just sitting there. Instead the water just slides off. I'd prefer to wax the car properly afterwards, too - especially if the paint is Celly or 1k. But then again, if you saw my car recently you wouldn't listen to anything I say about washing/polishing/waxing cars - I gave up on it when a fortnight after washing, cutting back, polishing, and waxing my car the red paint was pink again. The paint's just knackered.
