He's right.... driving from one end of France to the other is surprisingly un-grim.
Having said that if you paid me the juice/tolls from my house to there and back, (probably about £100 altogether) I could meet you there with my truck, we could strip it and sling all the bits in my truck. Then, next time I come over to the UK i could bring them for you, ipswich is not too out of the way when i'm doing Dover - Peterborough. It would cost you an easyjet to Nice, a couple of nights in a Hotel, some juice for me, and you'd get the bits 'eventually'!!! At least the priceless Sapporo bits wouldnt get binned though. You could take any essentials with you when you jet back. A mission, but not necessarily impossible.
Not be worth doing, or indeed realistically possible, till February at the very earliest though TBH and it might be gone by then.

This idea is getting very tempting Mr B, a couple of days in the south of france stripping old cars and collecting rare bits from scrap yards. I've worked out a few costs for flying to Nice return flight to Nice: £60.00 Two nights in cheap hotel: £60.00 Airport parking : £20.00 Three day car hire £60.00 Fuel: £40.00 Mr plums disasembly and delivery services: £100.00 Food and Beer: At least £50.00 Total: £390.00+ And thats before I've even paid for the Sapporo bits! and I'd have to choose my tools very carefully before setting off Hmmm!! What about driving down? Old estate: £150.00 Ferry (return) £25.00 2 nights cheap Hotel £60.00 Fuel: £100.00? Breakdown cover: £11.00 Food and beer: £50.00 Total: £396.00+ But this way I can take as many tools and rags etc as I need and I can sell the car on when I get back, I could probably fill the car with other rare bits as well to sell on when I'm home. On the down side it's a hell of a drive but on the up side it's a hell of a drive.

OK really does float my boat. Where does one go about locating a sound drivable one, with some ticket? How rare are they getting? Are the JDM "typical skyline" round lights easily available? Is it worth transplanting a 280 ZX engine and box? Is it easily done?

Is it worth transplanting a 280 ZX engine and box? Is it easily done? See my thread here.... retrorides.proboards29.com/index.cgi?board=readersrides&action=display&thread=1127144941I own two of them! In answer to your questions.... Be patient, keep an eye on eBay and datsunworld.com, or offer me lots of money for my yellow one! Not that I really want to sell it. They are rare, maybe 20-30 left here? I've got JDM rear lights on my maroon car, found by someone years ago in this country. Don't know where Will got his from the silver car (not fitted in the pic above). More crucially, you need JDM/Oz spec front light surrounds and mounts, as the Euro ones are horrible! I should think swapping in a 280ZX lump would be pretty easy, have heard of one or two done, but doubt the extra power really makes it worthwhile. An RB20/RB25 would be a much better swap. PM me if you want to know more.
