Well I'll stick my neck out and say he hadn't got a fooking clue what he's doing, its an old heap and been worked on by an idiot, if it was a 'show special' then there would be a nice machined camber plate or such like in there.
As it is it's not only stupid it's dangerous, and it doesn't look cool either, not commenting on it from an engineering or safety point of view is like banging on a set of blinkers and ignoring it,
Other people are stupid, FACT, even some people who browse this site, they might well pop out and camber up their car with a 5/8 BSW bolt or two and then tighten up the bolts just past their tensile strength and go winging round Tesco's/Halford's car park whatever until the M8 brothers decide they've had enough and wheels go flying.
How very cool......

I'm pretty sure us and him as grown adults can understand and deal with a bit of constructive critasism

How very cool...... I don't think this is the kind of site where the people are that stupid. Do you watch Superman films and think you can fly? The car looks stupid, I know that, you know that and I'd place a large bet that the owner knows that. I'm off out now, but I'm going to drive at 200mph because I've seen Formula 1 on the telly. **Actually, I'm not, because I'm not stupid.

this is just the sort of DANGEROUS madification which will get us all tarred and feathered by the officialdom as is the car was siezed and hence, off the road, (for now?) but what would the headlines have been if it had disintegrated on the road and killed someone (remember the story of the chap who killed his children in a BADLY modified land rover) so for the good of all of us keep ALL modifications safe and quality or before you know it you will have to get any change to your car inspected and passed (tuv anyone?) whinge over, so get out there, get modifying but most of all GET IT RIGHT!!!!!! ttfn glenn

looks curse word... again, trying to hard to be aircooled Wow you clearly really do know you stuff about this kind of modification. To those people pointing out how dangerous it is (again!) You know who else was REALLY cool,.. the dude that tight rope walked between the twin towers... of course he put himself, the public and those that tried to get him down in extreme mortal danger, in a very real sense. He did it without any kind of responsibility for his actions. You know what else, I can look at it and go "that looks very cool" and not want to go and do it because I'm also able to think "that looks very dangerous"... why the hell (as rmad pointed out) do people keep pointing this out. Where the hell did all these people arrive on my forum that feel they need to inform grown up people capabale of seeing the blindingly obvious of what is blindingly bloody obvious. You remind me of this : xkcd.com/386/ ... and you are curse word me off. It is stupid, it is dangerous,.. but some people want to look at it and say "hey that is stupid and dangerous, but looks cool"... if you aren't one of those.. move on,..

How can I put this positively... I'd like to see that built by someone with more engineering nous than a lobotomized chimpanzee. That would be cool. I don't get how on the one hand we're encouraged (rightly) to up the ante with the quality of cars at RRG 10, yet on the other were all expected to nod and approve (or at least not disapprove) of curse word like this. This is gonna be one of those "I wish I'd have kept quiet" posts. Sorry.

I feel it's a bit of a straw + camels back situation. There was a time on here when you could have posted this and people would have praised the wackiness with perhaps an underlying tone that they wouldn't approve of a mate doing it. But now it's just yet more negativity after a long tiresome barrage of negativity. Ever since the forum seemed to fill up with people just into old bangers.

reminds me of the other day when my handbrake slipped off and my Toledo rolled out into the main road, my mum was going ape screaming 'thats soooo dangerous' lol. have some more camber cars that provoked nowhere near the amount of tutting when posted previously, it's more of an anti-scene disgust i think...... oh and have some aircooled camber....

And I it is frustrating to get a thread full of negativity (which I added to... sorry...). I just feel that quality should be encouraged, both in the stuff that's posted here and the cars that we build. I guess that's what confuses me here.

Gentlemen, WRT HW's missive, I understand his point, and I understand how it *may* be obvious to some. Not sure all the obvious stuff is really obvious to everybody, or even a majority. There was a fellow here just the other day wanted to know about stainless bolts, and another guy wanted to know about a horn relay. We could just say, hey, that stuff is obvious and not discuss it.
Now, come to my main point here: Context! Context!
The OP was attached with a picture of emergency personnel taking taxpayer time to haul in a dangerous car that (if the VW forum is accurate) just did 150miles at 25MPH which is, duh, 12 hours on the road. 12 hours he exposed this modification to fellow motorists and any passengers he may have had onboard.
Now, as for passing judgment, an ACTUAL judge did that: The car was impounded, and driver fined. The driver loves the car so much he abandoned it. So he must really be insulted by people (like the judge, the firemen, the police, and the rollback driver) all discussing his car and why it was forcibly removed as an obstruction to safe travel from public roads.
Is this NOT worthy? If not, then why was the OP submitted with the pictures in CONTEXT with it?
And no one is slagging the car. I quite like Mk1 Bunnies. I used to admire them for 45 minutes at a time in my Capri roadracer's rearview Wink mirror.... ;D
Facts. X3
Respect to HW. None of this is meant as insurrection, but rather as an alt POV for possible agreement.

I bet the owner dreams that one day he'll be cool enough to sit on the net slagging off others peoples cars on forums. whatever you think my friend, I've built a lot of competition cars in my time, and don't have to justify myself to you. I do browse RR far more than I post because I enjoy the pics and the mix of styles on the site. My cars aren't on here because they don't fit/don't have time. We aren't supposed to say 'boo' if we don't like the look of something, so I say nothing, fine those are the rules BUT that heap is dangerous and I'd poke myself in the eye with a curse word stick if I even thought about doing something like that.

This isn't a quality modified car ... it is a point of interest. No one has said "hey you should go out there and modify your car this way" ... in fact even those that nodded and said "that looks pretty crazy" say not to do it because it is stupid and dangerous (which as pointed out REPEATEDLY is bloody obvious). As with the tight rope walker,.. I can looks, appreciate and not slavishly follow because a) I'm an adult and b) I'm not an idiot. Why do people think that everyone else is an idiot and can't see what they see? Then feel the need to spill their bile about it?

Tightrope walking looks dangerous even if your stupid, but you need some kind of mechanical appreciation to realsise just how many things could have gone wrong under that car, i know its not even in this country, but as has been pointed out, the accident in the badly modded 4x4 got a lot of people excited and according to the forums i use more modified 4x4 drivers are being pulled in at VOSA checks these days.
What that guys VW looks like is up to him, and posting pics on a forum is fine too, but it does no harm to have people saying its dangerous, it may be boring, but as always a boring thread will vanish off page 1 pretty quick.
