The wheels on the Derby, as you may know have a clip-in outer plastic rim. Well I took them off the other day (the first time in about 18 months) To wash the wheels behind and rather liked the look of the steel wheels on their own - I especially like the way the tyre sits over the wheel rim. What do you guys reckon With..... or without?.....

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Mmm - I agree the difference is very subtle, Its just that the wheels having been fitted to the car for quite a while, the simple removal of the trim rings made in my eyes a significant difference. Being plastic the trims cannot be polished - however I reckon the chrome 'beauty rings' from a 14" Beetle wheel might fit, though i'm worried they might look abit tacky The reason why I chose these wheels is that I wanted to 'freshen' up the look of the car without making too much of a feature of them detracting the attention away from what I think is quite a pleasingly shaped car. Looks like i'll be popping the trims back on until a time when perhaps i'll get some different wheels - I rather fancy some 14" Fuch (though this has obviously been done - & I would blatently be copying) But i'd really love some obscure japanese motorsport inspired wheels.

well for now they look understated and right as they are. chrome plating is available for plastic. there was a thread up a while ago about it.

beetle beauty rings a nogo as they're 15" wheels stock.
definately look better without the rings, but i wouldn't chrome them - the finish on them looks better in my squiffy opinion.

I reckon body colour wheels, matt silver (like that nissan the other week) centre and plastic rim... Although plastic rimless could work very well - I agree with DarrenW - we need to see them in context with the rest of the car

Sorry to drag this up again Washed the car at the weekend and then re-fitted the trim rings - and took before & after pictures of the whole car.... I kinda prefer it without the trims - the wheels look 'finer' & emphisise the low profile tyres - bl**dy typical, the rings were quite expensive from VW
