Bones. OK, I've a real conundrum. What (in your opinion) would the weapon of choice for a 10k miles per car for the up-and-coming-young-professional-man-about-town that I am, for around £3.5k or less (extra points for the less part!)? I'm genuinely stuck as to what to do. These are the actua pictures of the ones that I have come up with so far; Volvo Amazon GT Pug 205 GTi Mi16 Renault Clio Williams Renner Avantime Alpine Saab 900 turbo 16 Nissan 200sx BMW e30 325i Sport 318iS Lotus Excel?

I like old cars so an Amazon would be my choice from those.

Feel free to ad to the potentials, I've not got a closed mind to what it has to be. It just has to do 10k (mainly motorway) miles per year and no bankrupt me on the fuel (or knock £800 off for an LPG kit)

Hmm, I have a lot of love for the early scirocco, especially since reading about the yank putting 1.8 turbots in them. I bet findng one that hasn't rusted to curse word would be a neverending journey though...

Personally, it'd be the Amazon, everytime. The Alpine, Subaru and Avantime will cripple you when not if they need something doing. The E30 and the Golf, I can only imagine them maybe being hard work (and thristy) being so modified. The 205 and Clio, nice hothatches, but if your using these for business are they gonna be big enough/comfortable enough to use day in day out. The s13/200sx is nice, but I don't gel well with red cars Excels are cool, but I'm again not sure what running one daily would be like. The mitsi, whilst being totally competant, would it be somewhat underwhelming/forgetable? The Saab would be my wildcard though, they are just too cool All I would suggest is go take a the ones that really grab you for a drive, and think about how you'd feel doing numerous hours behind the wheel

I will be in the same boat next year! cant stop thinking about the car I'm gonna get ;D at the moment ive narrowed it down to: Toyota Celica Supra BMW E30 (any engine but must be silver or black) BMW E28 Peugeot 205 or 309 GTI (not red or white, must have red carpet though) Vauxhall Chevette C20XE Turbo Lancia Delta my personal favourite is the lancia since i was about 10 years old! but I have never owned a RWD car so I cant stop thinking about an e30 or C20XE engined chevette! good luck in whatever you choose. but make sure its different, fun, and reliable!

I'd say the Avantime of all those above. Why? Your only chance to snap up this odball piece of Gallic engineering while they're young enough not to be money-pits.
It may not be the best car in the world and you may not have it for many years. But in 40 years time when you look back to 2010 you'll be able to say "I had an Avantime" while the old git in the next armchair along will only have his Mundaneo to look back at.

300ZX FTW! ;D My mate bought one from wales 3 grand drove it home then it blew up after 200 miles a 'professional' garage took it had it six months charged 2 grand and gave it back to him with the engine in bits and said its fuc#ed so we cut it up with a petrol grinder ;D An expensive 200 miles He now has a soarer and its a really good car and was a fraction of the price.

I was outbid on a 300ZX years back at a car auction. Afterwards, I was outside picking up the car I did win, and watched as the guy who got the 300 jumped into his new car, started it up, lit up the back tyres and exited the carpark sideways. Initially impressive, he then went on the over-correct the slide, fish tailed it a few times down the road and smacked it into a concrete bollard, completely wrecking it. I lol`d.

I know what you mean, the lancia is a favourite of mine, but even I blanche at the sort of bills it can throw. In it's stead I was looking at these Lancer Ev3 Celica GT4s And possibly Leggy GTB's, with pre apologies for the size of this pic. As to practicality, this was my previous daily driver... ..so no need to worry overly about that part, I'd just like something with proper doors and perhaps a decent heater for winter. BB
