1992 Subaru Brat,rollbar & spots now fitted!

Well the "spares dept Brat" i bought yesterday has come up trumps already!
Whilst towing Si back yesterday the wipers on my Brat seemed very slow in relation to the view i had in the rear view of the wipers on the "spares dept Brat" so this morning i robbed the wiper motor off it & fitted it to my Brat & heh presto ive got wipers that actually move across the screen at the "proper" speed & not the snails pace i was soo used to experiencing!
Job Done!!

As you are all probably aware ive got the Subaru Brat thats in the Area52 thread.........well ive been meaning to do this next modification for some time & over the last 2 nights I got my butt in gear & got it done!!
Basically I wanted some sort of chrome nudge bar on the truck but I couldnt find an original so I had to look & see what I could find that would fit..
This is what I found,its originally from a Toyota Surf....

Then I removed the centre bar,2 reasons;1 it was rusty & 2 I didnt want the word Toyota on my Subaru!!
Now the tricky bit started,it wouldnt fit at all so I cut off the original mounts & fabricated some new ones that allowed me to attach it to the underside of the bumper irons.


Once these were welded in place I trial fitted it & then made some minor adjustments so it sat correctly.
Finally I added some retro 8" Cibie Oscar+'s I traded for the huge spotlights that the truck came with.
Heres the finished bar fitted,just got to wire up the spots & do a final fit n finish tomorrow in the light!

I'm pleased with it so far & I think its an improvement on the look of my little truck!

Thanks Grizz,it means a hell of a lot to me also & I've still got a lot more plans afoot for more modifications to it which I hope will improve it even more but its fraught with the usual constraints of time,weather & not upsetting the wife with the "obsession" as she calls it but having said that I will soldier on in true RR fashion & keep slowly plugging away at the list of ideas & modifications thats safely locked away in my head with photo updates!! ;D

Well the flea bay present is going to be my daily driver whilst the conversion goes into the Brat as another "donor car" came into my possession on new years day & its getting its heart removed this weekend,then a cleanup & once over before I try & squeeze it into the Brat's engine bay!
Let the fun commence & I will try & take photos & post them up once the transformation is in full swing..........

first off can i just say that your truck looks awesome !

can I ask how hard the graphics were to get hold of and do the bigger wheels have much affect on acceleration or use of low range ? thanks Lloyd

thanks dude, i'm hoping to pick up one of these in the next couple of days, i'm usually a vw man but have always had a soft spot for brats and a low ratio box is growing more and more appealing as I live in the middle of nowhere and there's a foot of snow outside my front door ! If I get the nod for mine is it ok to tap you up for some knowledge with regards to the nudge bar, graphics ect ?

I started the engine conversion today that ive been planning to do for ages & I thought i'd better put up a photo to let you all see whats happening,heres the 1st photo of the old engine coming out as a little appertiser & I will update with more photos as it goes along!
I will let the guessing commence as to whats going back in,answers on a postcard & maybe a prize for the person who gets it right.... ;D
