I'm sure the majority of regulars on here are familiar with at least some of the history of this thing.. It's the village bike ;D I'll start from when I acquired it though. It's a 1988 Volvo 240GL saloon that I swapped this for I understand Joe has some awesome plans for it involving turbos and megasquirt so look out for his thread on it Back to the volvo though.. It was painted at the gathering in a military satin black and the colour will stay, but with a good tidy up and the bonnet in an RAF bluey grey sort of colour to tie in with the interior. I picked it up on wednesday, ran over a bird within 10 minutes (volvo initiation? ;D ) and got home to find this Bums. The light had been pushed out by some spares moving about in the boot. Fortunately Joe had a spare so that's all sorted now. The exhaust is fuc broken. It has snapped on the over axle bend and has been bodged in the past.. I can't be bothered to repair it because I have exhaust plans of my own. Zip ties and cider can? No, it didn't last very long. The front tyres have been wearing really unevenly And so I went to National Tyres in Yeovil (named because I really like them there) and asked for the tracking to be done and a set of 195/55s to go on the 8" steels. Got a call 30 mins later saying they didn't have any but suggested a pair of 195/50s "because I guess you're going for the stretched look". This means I'll have to go lower (what a crying shame ;D ). They look spot on with a smidgen of stretch on them though. I'd best go and give it a quick hose down. It's filthy!

Good to see somebody else getting some Volvo love. Thought you might be interested to know that the guy who spent the best part of 7K on yours and owned it for a lot of years lives in Yeovil... If you see a mid sized saloon with the private plate on it that's etched onto the Volvo's windows, that's him... I gather the history folder never made it past Si, but that thing had some serious love poured on it over the years. I really enjoyed my time in it

I really enjoyed my time in it Hi Bryn, yeah, I spotted that from a couple receipts that I have. I'll keep an eye out for the plate.. I see that you're reasonably local as well (assuming you haven't gone too far away since the tax reminder floating about in the car was issued to you!) I seem to have a limited history file but obviously not all of it, it'd be nice to have if it ever shows up again but it's not exactly important anymore (I'm sure the resale value won't be adversely affected ) I can tell it's had lots of love, even if it's a bit rough aesthetically at the moment, it's obviously been cared for by all of it's previous owners. Bodgeit, I think I just spotted your car.. on a driveway in martock? Near the BP garage?

Headlight covers like that are on my 'want' list. There's no logic to it, or trying to tie in with a theme. They just look cool. I have the ones that were on mine previously and they are not happy looking anymore, all cracked and scratched..

I got the estate off my dad, and he spent some crazy money buying the headlight guards from a Volvo dealership. I really enjoyed the car, but the engine never had enough grunt, it was the GL model with an Auto box. Would love to find another solid one and have some fun.

Some plans and idea bouncing...
I want to remove the chrome trim from the (modified, moved closer to the body) bumpers.. Paint them black but paint the lower indent/trim bit the colour that the bonnet will be. Simple enough to do and I think it will finish them off nicely.
I have issues with the exhaust. I want side exit, but I want it to be not too noisy.. The current idea is to use a stock motorbike end can (cheap, compact, about the correct bore if I get one off a litre sports bike) and have it exiting at the side, behind the rear wheel. It means I can utilise the existing over axle bend, trimmed back slightly past where it has already snapped/rotted. I'd be interested to know people's thoughts on this though.
;D
EDIT: Standard R1 exhaust on ebay in good condition. both silencers and the mid section of the pipes (everything else I've seen has been just silencers). at £10 with 45 minutes to go. Looks like exhuast may be sorted ;D

Looks OK, however, too many colors now IMO, I think that it would be better if the bumpers were changed back to black...

Bumpers are going back to black with a bit of bonnet coloured (future bonnet colour) detailing and the chrome trim removed. The red is there because they were second hand repair panels. The silver on the bootlid will also be going black to get the car largely one colour
