A Nissan PAO? Classic insurance (OK, I'm a lot older but mine was only £120), Micra K10 under the skin so bits are cheap and reliable, most are autos, power steering, aircon, practical (4 seats and hatch), 50+mpg if you get a manual gearbox, a lot cheaper than an equivalent Figaro. And girls love them. Or a Toyota WiLL or Nissan Cube if you prefer something more modern. May I draw your attention to the 'circa' £500 budget as stated in earlier in the thread: budget is a difficult question, I' like a free one no really, upto about 500 at a guess probably less as it wont need an mot or tax as it wont be needed for a year PAO is an awesome car but certainly not within budget....and the Cube is even more (a LOT more) expensive.

You want to avoid those unreliable english motors (trust me - I own a LOT of triumphs) and go for the Suzuki fella...... Once she's used to an older car that won't drop to bits daily - THEN - stick her with the imp (also gives you more time to get it finished). I know the most trying thing for me at 18 was the damn MG throwing it's toys outta the cot regularly!

I would just like to point out that some companies wont give classic insurance untill you've had a full license for three years, so don't count on an old car getting you cheap insurance, check first.

Found one ;D ;D Not yet collected but just bought a sweet looking Chevette 1256 4 door in a nice baby blue ;D Needs some work but i have a bit of time Rang Aidrian Flux and insurance is favourable, approx £1400 compared to around £1200 for an old shape Mini which is the cheapest so not too horrendous. Just need to keep it away from her prying eyes Also need to sort out a driving instructor for the Gathering Sunday morning, any offers ? and I have a plan involving lots of "L" plates LOL Thanks for all the ideas ;D

Good Man. Katy is gonna love that! The colour, the style, the era....all perfect for a budding Retro lass learning to drive. She'll be the envy of all her friends. My first car was a Chevette (hatch) and I loved it. So many fond memories. She's a very lucky girl to have a Dad like you (although she hopefully won't konw how lucky until next August ) If you need a hand with anything (collecting it, working on it) you know where I am...... ;D
