thanks for all suggestions. As was said the wagon r type vehicle look great when modded but at 17 that is not really an insurance lowering thing I did think groups were the standard but sounds like they are not I will ring a couple of companies about cars older than drivers ? thanks again Al

Nova. Cool, clean lines, reliable, easy to fix/modify and good fun. Unless it has a bodykit in which case it will look awful.

Having met Lil' Miss Grunty in person, I'd be inclined to suggest something with PAS because she's only a wee slip of a lass.....and anything that means you can get on with the business of enjoying it rather than just driving it has gotta be good. Fuel's getting no cheaper, so 50mpg would be nice....and spares/panels in plentiful supply for Dad to put right the inevitable battlescars!! Thinking: Mk3 Fiesta 950/1100 (remember the oldest Mk3's are now 21 years old!!!), K11 Micra 1.0 (great little 16v lump, 5 gears, 50+ mpg....and I think one would look awesome slammed over period steelies), early Pug 106.....or even a povo-spec 205, there are still plenty of unmolested granny-mobile Pugs about.... See? I got through it without mentioning 2CV's. Bugg3r.

Why are you even asking? Get her an Imp. Loads of 17-18 yr olds on the Imp Club forum with Imps generally paying well under a grand (usually 5-600 quid IIRC) for insurance through FJ or PJ. Engine in the back like a Beetle but much cheaper and light steering as a result.

I'd says beetle or Imp
both cars are listed by Adrian Flux as being the cheapest cars for 17 yo to insure in some newsletter statistics thing i saw.
The beetle has and awesome scene behind it, and you cant get much cooler than an Imp

You just missed one, bang on your budget too: retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=FSW&action=display&thread=65674Upsides: 50mpg, mechanically simple, hard as nails, INCREDIBLE fun to drive, brilliant club following/social scene, there are local 2CVGB branches everywhere. Downsides: Not much in the way of crash protection, rust.....erm, that's it. The other one I've just thought of: 970cc of cracking 4x4xFUN. ;D
