I'm pretty poor at doing Readers Rides threads for my cars, so here's one for the Plymouth.
This is how she came to me, from California, seems like not long ago but I think it was like 6 or 7 years now.
I had a bunch of fuel related problems with it, usually leaks, but also cloggages, check this out
Make your own petroleum jelly. Anyway I had that damn fuel tank off more times than my pants one summer with all the leaks and odd stuff. And now it has a duff fuel sender.
Anyway, since I moved house (crikey 4 years!) the car hasn't been on the road or had much done with it, what with one thing and another so now really its overdue doing.
so with much faff, which has been detailed on the forum before a bunch of us (usually Benzboy, PaulMi16, Hitch and my mate Steve) set about getting it running as it was a non-starter due to an electrical fault.
full gorey details (plus some Oldsmobile content) in the old threads here:
retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=65010
and
retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=64298
now running....
after the replacement of a starter relay
which enthused me enough to buy some Cherry Bomb header mufflers for it, which are too big, but hey, they were on eBay... thread about that here:
retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=65006
and then much faffing about in an attempt to get the brakes sorted.
the "WIP" here is removal of a brake flexi I believed was ballooning and acting as a non-return valve which is causing the brakes to stick.
Well, we now have the flexi right off and the brakes still stick so thats not it.
So BB and I had another crack at it
with my able assistant here attempting to fathom the brake flare tool
got lo-lo stance going on...
and this youtube video made us laugh but is not how to correctly flare a brake line
aha!
but the brake line on the car is old, and we just fancied replacing it anyway (in reality by the time we cut off the old union and messed about trying to get enough straight on it to flare it for the new union it was pulled "odd" so we decided "sod it" as the car has had persistent brake issues, lets not monkey about.
so now I have 25 feet of copper brake pipe awaiting installation.
normally I have always got brake lines cut & flared with the unions on, and you can get them like that for this car ( www.inlinetube.com and others) but for the cost its a good skill to pick up to make your own I guess!
