I had a thread for this ages ago but I can't find it anywhere
I have loved this car since I first saw it & my mate Paul let me drive it. He then bought a lovely Consul Classic & the opportunity to own this beast presented itself... I pretty much tore his hand off
Drove up to Bristol to collect it .. went up in a convoy With Paul in his Classic & Richierich in his 1600e
The Clutch is shot but it is drivable (hard work but worth it...) it goes soo well & the roar of those 40's is just about the best sound I have ever heard ;D
I could only use 2nd, 3rd & 4th but I still managed to leave lot's of rubber everywhere I went & we got lot's of looks driving through Bristol in convoy.
The battery was dead & needed jump starting all the time... not really good trying to do a hill start in 2nd in heavy traffic up the steepest hill in Bristol... Cheers for taking us up there Paul
After all the papers were signed Richie & I headed back home... only to discover the inaccuracies of the fuel guage on the M5.
Anyway heres the Spec & some more pics:
Engine
1500 Pre-crossflow, all steel bottom end, Lotus crank and rods, Cosworth steel main caps, lightened, polished and balanced.
+40 Power Max pistons, full race head (port, polish, big valves etc.) steel rocker shaft and posts, duplex timing gear, Tony Law manifold, Stainless system, twin DCOE 40’s.
High capacity high pressure oil pump, Aldon racing distributor, Kent 244 cam, fully baffled sump.
All studs, bolts etc. are ARP heavy duty.
Gearbox
2000e with quickshift
Suspension
Front – fully adjustable (camber and caster) 2L Capri struts recon’d with HD inserts and new discs, up rated minus 3inch springs
Rear – minus 2 inch Saloon springs, 2 inch lowering blocks, spax dampers & anti-tramp bars
Electrics
converted to neg earth and alternator.
Wheels
Lotus Steels with 185/60 tires
That was April '08. The car sat up for a year while I changed the gearbox (slowly...) in which time it started to look sorry for itself
I put it in for an MOT this April (09)....
..... where it failed massivly on rust (4 pages but hardly a surprise!!) I went ahead & had the work done anyway by a local coachworks:
All welding done, engine bay welds ground down, getting a skim of filler before paint
