I put a bunch of Neons in the "retro rides is about" thread so I won't replicate that post here. But the SRT4 Neon is fast. As in Impreza WRX fast. They are used a lot in grass roots motor sports in the US. There are a few companies doing turbo and supercharger kits and the like for the non-SRT version.
HOWEVER.
In the UK these are less of a good buy IMO. Not to wreck anyone's sale here but they suffer from rapid depreciation, horrendous parts pricing by Daimler-Chrysler/Mercedes and you don't seem to see them in scrap yards either.
Sadly I have to report that the phase 1 cars are a bit rubbish. I looked at buying one when they were fairly new as a family modern hack. OK, in the most part the cheap plastic dash and interior was the same level of nasty you get in any mid 90s Euro or Asian car. C'mon, people diss the Chryslers but compare to a Nissan or Renault of same age? The auto version was only a 3 speed and the suspension was very stiff. I bought an Audi instead. And waht a POS that turned out to be but thats another story....
The phase 2 cars are much improved but the image was set here by then by the phase 1 cars and sales were never good.
