Still waiting 'permission' to get in the garage officially - work to be done next week apparently - so I sneaked in and cracked on last week a little - if they want to check on me at 9pm then I may get caught - but not really likely .
Moved on to the Drivers Side - even worse if that could be possible .
Started removing the oxidised bits....
and the whole just kept getting bigger
rear pan was fubar'd - so out it came
but I left in a couple of the only bits left supporting the front - so it didn't just drop to bits on me!
Chassis arm and A-post left in place temporarily
and you can see on that one the front pan starting to take shape
and some bracing/support later - I needed to replace this lot
with a nice new box section -
I also butchered the new inner sill I'd had from blighty along with a re-con steering rack and alloy mounts
- the panel was so cheap and complicated to make - it wasn't worth me even attempting it. I'd have messed up more in steel than the panel cost.
In it went..... and the old a post was history.
and got the rear pan in (I'm not happy with it though and may lob it back out and make another. Time will be a factor
Bulkhead was gradually shaped up and tacked in
and I had to make the support that will be bolted to the chassis arm ( you'll see I've also taken the remainder of the
original away as it was another 4-layer rotfest. It's zapped in and almost done as of now
so the rear was butchered as I'll be tackling that next.
Templates already done - need to re-stock on the sheet metal first though.
Protoype of chassis arm made
- will pick up 1.5-2mm and do this in heavier gauge. As original but I've extended it's reach
to the outer box - and done away with the triangulated brace that usually goes in. Couple of heavy washers, slpodge of
weld, captive nuts in the arm and hex bolts will see it solidly mounted. All sitting there - so should be OK.
Garage floor FINALLY being replaced - so a couple of weeks without any real access but I'll find a way I suppose .
Annoyed they've picked now to get their rears in gear - but if the floor collapses I'll be a lot worse off!
