You’re all full of it! The engine - it’s the right manufacturer, right weight, right power output…. Wrong ‘noise’ I’ve never heard of that reason before. They use the V8 in the current S4, its defo got sporting credentials too. Its not like he’s used a wheezy old Rover V8, with 160bhp from its 3.5 litres.

I like it. I might not like it as much if it had been an ultra-rare car to begin with. Even SWBs, though, are not THAT rare. they only made 216.... and that was 20 years ago.... not exactly commonplace....

;D Nice to cause a bit of controversy! For me, the 5-Cylinder 'warble' is one of THE main defining points of an Ur-Q, just would seem really odd without it! At the end of the day, it started out as a boggo Coupe Quattro so no genuine Ur-Qs were harmed And even if they were, it's still a great feat

it's a good good thing. you only really need one original example of a vehicle left - if it's perfect then it'll be the same as someone else's 'perfect original example' and we all know there's no point copying someone else but since it's a modded coupe then it's even righter. the 5-pot noise is lush but so is a v8 rumble. it's still an audi engine too, bonus points. and i still have nightmares from my 5-pot noise mixed in with the chime of a low-fuel warning, and the ticking from the knackered manifold. more cylinders equals better engine. simple. a v6 calibra is better than a 3-cylinder corsa. a v12 ferarri is better than a moped.

Cos Audi SWB quattro's are/were perfect.... no need to modify them....... end of... Oh and Pillock.... I remember the chime of the low fuel warning light.. usually directly proportionate to the heaviness of my right foot too! (but not always) 'That' noise makes it sooooo worthwhile though... Not even a V8 improves on it IMO... I've got an MP3 of a rally-prepped shorty sporty on a forest stage... magnificent!

So are Ferrari 250GTO ,.. but people still modify them for Racing,.. but there are racing versions of the SWB quattro... the 'Sport' version was made purely for homologation purposes.... if you're gonna race a SWB quattro... buy a coupe quattro and get dialynx to hack it up! I decree that No-one is allowed to hack up genuine factory sport quattro's (until I've secured one for myself... then they're fair game! - just wanna make sure theres one stock one left for me...)

Nope,.. it's the go! ... Whatever it takes to make it bigger, better, faster, more... I'm probably sticking my neck out here, but weren't most of the "original" group B cars pretty much parts bin specials, I know the Stratos definatly was. The people that built them weren't trying to keep those cars to a formula, just trying to wring as much power out of them as possible. I bet if they built one now, they would use an Audi V8 engine,.. think of it as a logical EVOlution..

I think it's spot on,.. even if it was a Ur-Quattro, no car is beyond modifying ... "should have a 5" thats like "Should have an aircooled engine" blah blah blah ... Bang on. I also quite like the wheels, but wouldn't have them myself. The only thing wrong is that we've only got 1 pic to look at over 3 pages

As always, everybody has a different opinion. But for me it's all about the engineering. Firstly, anyone who cuts 320mm from the middle of their car and welds it back together true, deserves some respect. www.dialynx.co.uk/conversions.htmNot content with that they source an Audi V8 and nail that in there. I can only guess, but if you've done all that, the rest of it is going to be well engineered too. Check the slam panel - I'm guessing it's not original (please correct me if I'm wrong) and has been made removable to get the V8 in there. I've had to to do something similar on my Celica and trying to get it to look 'factory' like this Audi isn't easy. My only 'criticism' is that V8 seems to way out in front of the front suspension (may be the camera angle) so could understeer a bit. But weren't all Sport Quattros guilty of this? Gets my vote.

Having a V8 or the V5 will both sound wicked in a valley.. For sure.. But surly, the turbo lag, And awesome power the turbo produced, on the V5 is what gave the car character?? My dad's boss lent his too his son and the first thing he told him was that if he wanted to overtake someone, then he HAD, to pull out, before he put his foot down!! I accept that the Audi V8 is a good engine.. And IF the V5 was *ucked, then I also would look for alternative power source. fair play to the guy for keeping it Audi.. My point (however weak it may seem) is that you can’t expect the same incredible burst of power from the V8..

I'm not against the fact that he's lobbed an Audi V8 in there and hacked a chunk out of the middle of a coupe....
BUT...
if that was a GENUINE FACTORY Sport... then I'd be gutted...
Not saying it's wrong, just saying I'd be disappointed if they'd hacked up a rare, limited production car when they could get the same result from hacking up a much more readily available car to get the same result.
but it looks like they didn't butcher a sport, so it's all good... ('cept for the wheels!)
