Well, the Cartoon style scooter is pretty much completed now. Thread here : www.retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=othrmod&action=display&thread=64230&page=1However, look at the pics and tell me..... Do I clutter up the front end with brake cables, and handle, also replacing the red wheel with the original blue one whuch the forks and brakes are made for?? I prefer the look, and feel of it without brakes.... but downhill may become a test of testosterone. Imagine the brakes and handle in place now.

just wear big boots and shove your toe in the gap between the frame and back wheel ;D

if you could get some small u brakes... off the rear of a new bmx for example (althought this would involve welding on the stubs like v brakes) they would look good mounted on the rear of the forks painted white and fitted with some white raleigh or haro brake blocks. , a white cable routed up through the forks and stem, through the bars and onto a small 80's bmx brake lever ( very very small) that would look good and you'd be able to stop

Yeah go for brakes. It's not often I'm sensible but I do like brakes on stuff. What about something completely Heath Robinson rather than the existing brakes? Then it'll look like it belongs on the contraption

Brakes are for wimps (and flip flop wearing south Africans ) ;D Get Jon to knock you up one of his rockets that you could use on reverse thrust!

Wow, that turned out really cool! Love the numberplate deck.
As for brakes, I agree with Johnny69. Something intricate and bizarre if possible. But otherwise, the existing brakes don't look too bad anyway.

With a bocephus sticker on his 442, he'd light 'em up just for fun

The only brake I will allow will have to use a massive upright lever like one you might find on a steam train.... make a feature of it and all that

Porsche 924 - gone Citroen Saxo VTR - not very retro but I loved it - now gone... MK4 Golf GTi 1.8T - gone but hardly remembered... Mini Cooper S R53 - gone BMW 125d Coupe - gone (mostly sideways)
Ford Focus RS Mk1 - hello low MPGs and "wanna race me" at every set of lights... 1973 BMW 2002 - Twin 40's, 284 Cam, Revolutions, E21 Recaros + more Porsche Cayman 987 3.4S - here and due to cost me more money than I have

What about a Press brake on the back wheel, You know the type just a bit of Plastic that when pressed rubs on the tyre.

No brakes. Sometimes when I have a moment when it comes to a decision between safety or not, I think to myself, "What would Clint Eastwood do?", and suddenly I'm inspired with manlieness.

Don't be a wuss. No brakes, big boots and jam it on the back wheel. It was good enough for early noughties bmxers and its good enough for you!

I forgot how to retro...

nooo, you are all looking at it wrong. you need a brake on the back wheel that locks up at the slightest touch for tail out sliding fun in the style of Steve McQueen.....
|
|
To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

A brake is a good idea.
When I finished mine I had a ride with it before I hooked the brake up, and it was scarey.
The inertia of the wheels and the general weight made it hard to stop without coming a cropper!
Agree with SOC, get an awsome rear brake going for some sliding!
