Not me, there are some guys on a charity rally to Mongolia (same one Team Blitz is on). They are currently in the Germany. They have a 1996 ES v8i (with LPG) Auto disco that very recently had a new tank. Here's what's up.
They had the tank flushed and found loads of curse word in it including bits of wire.
They got on their way again, then today
Anybody any idea what it could be?

ignition coil getting too hot and breaking down, and/or there's a connector under the steering column, one of the wires goes to the ignition coil, connector gets dodgy and breaksdown/overheats

Thanks rhubarb, can the connection be bypassed or replaced? In case anybody is wondering, they couldn't take a diesel, as it's a 4X4 they can only import a petrol. Should have got a transit!!

I blame it on the boogie perhaps breathers connected to each other insted of venting on the new tank?

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

Mmmm not sure but I'm thinking.. so i'll think outloud incase anything rings a bell with someone else.. Vacuum pipes? slow leak causing loss/build up of pressure or something that stops the fuel. How much fuel in the tank is 50miles getting to a level where more crud can be picked up? Blocked fuel filter.. or lines Heat related? 50miles builds up enough heat to boil fuel before getting to engine.. (were any pipes re-routed near exhaust?) Odd immobiliser type thing?? What LPG system is fitted.. can it run on LPG.. does it automatically switch to LPG on low fuel (some do) maybe dodgy sender and no LPG? Blocked breather on tank or something creating vacuum whenfuel pump is trying to suck it out..
Thats my initial ramblings over not much help though.. any other info on the problem, noises sysmptoms etc. hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will chip in..

Good point, keep em coming! Thank god they are in Germany, not France. At least the Germans speak English. If they can't get it going, that's it, they are out. They don't have euro cover either....

Should have got a transit!! easiest way for them to bypass it, would run a cable from ignition switch to coil, or from the battery to coil

Wire in the tank sounds like one of those lead free pellet things that peopel used a few years ago, pellets held in wire mesh then dropped into tank to slowly dissolve. Could be a new bit of wire blocking the fuel outlet?

I blame it on the boogie perhaps breathers connected to each other insted of venting on the new tank? Jeez I hope not, it was seen by a Landy dealership before they left the UK.

check a fuel tank breather isnt blocked or trapped and vacuuming the tank after 50 miles. when it next stops remove the filler cap and see if it will start again.

yea. some cars will hiss a little anyway but a loud hiss will indicate too much vacuum stopping the fuel from getting through. have known a few discoverys do this.

Anybody want this? Sounds like the blokes are going to ditch it cos it's cut out three times in 250 miles.....
It's in Frankfurt......

I'd love it but don't live in frankfurt.. or have a trailer.. or a car to tow it with.. but if it needs a home! Now that would be a big RR transport request!

Well RAC cover is about £95 I looked into it. Call em out, hope they don't fix it, the ADAC will take it on one truck to Calais. Had a van brought back by them from Düsseldorf once. The ADAC are brilliant. or go and get some ADAC Euro cover when you get there, it's about 70 Euros. Get the RAC to bring it from Dover.

Oh god don't tell me that... Mmmmm am actually trying to figure something cheap out that would probably fit the bill aside fromt he fact the RAC may well guess I was never there.. passport out of date, swine flu and bad bad record with them (who ever said J cars were reliable ) If anyone can help out let me know.. don't mind a cash injection in a helpers direction.. but would rather avoid the whole dodgy rac recovery route.. gits would probably fix it! lol.

That's the thing, 3 landy dealers have had a shot at it, one here in the UK and two in Germany. I doubt even the eager ADAC patrol would get to the bottom of it. It would be better if it was in France, cos the French really don't give a light! I was once recovered all the way back from France and it was just a stop solenoid wire breaking down (which is why I didn't realise that's what it was). The bleedin French didn't even lift the bonnet!
