Actually with the M5 and M3 .. we hit the highest population density in the UK pretty easily : www.geographyalltheway.com/ib_geography/ib_population/imagesetc/england_and_wales_popn_density.jpgSure it looks better in the Midlands for travel, but actually Gaydon isn't as easy to travel to for a lot of people as it isn't as well connected as Haynes. I guess the only real way to see if this is true will be after this years event when we get feedback. I'm sure we can continue to count on your support for the effort we're putting in to put on a show.

If anyone can think of a cure to stop my mutt throwing up after 25 miles in the car..........My ex is taking my daughter on holiday that weekend and I have the next week booked off work. So its my only excuse left, well apart from the engines still in bits at the moment. It works out at 10 piles of dog sick at the moment

Listen this is a forum is it not? don't ask for peoples opinion if you don't want to hear both sides. Having to drive 6 hours to a show aint for me,and 6 hours drive home after also isent for me. You ask for peoples opinions on this, this is mine.If you don't like it hard luck.

I'm guessing you'd have been even less pleased if we'd put it on at our other choice of venue, Lydden Hill. Sadly you can't please everyone, the point of this thread was to highlight that the major motorways servicing the area make it less scary a journey than it would appear if you only look at a map. However for some people, Scotland and North West in particular it is a tough ask... of course some people are still coming from Ireland and the continent..

I'm going to be heading down on the Friday but Mrs MiniDan is heading down on Sunday with Little MiniDan and the dog. Because it'll be a few too many miles in one day were going to find a campsite for Sunday (and maybe Monday) night and have a mini road trip back visiting Stonehenge, etc. on the way back.

I've driven (Datsuns) from my house to shows in Holland, Norway, Finland, and last month Northern Ireland. No way I'd trust a 30+ yr old car if it wasn't a Datsun. NEVER had a problem. See you at Yeovil! oooo, really? what show was that?

surprisingskoda-give yourself a pat on the back, your my long distance driving hero! Its nothing to do with the car,and I'm not making a song and dance about it.But my view is its in the wrong place.Thats just my opinion and arnt we all entitled to one? I just think it`d be better off being somewhere more central. Its just not my cup of tea to drive for 6 hours to a show but i guess I'm not hardcore enough.

Only dilemma I have is do I drive the hippy bus for close on 7 hours straight or do the sensible thing and take a car and a tent. troublle is, which car? all the nice ones have practicality problems when you talk about 1000 mile round trips with family and camping gear - and I sure as hell ain't bringing the truck again. I will be there. In a scorpio cosworth with full leather and electric everything. (probably. Knowing my luck tho, I'll end up in a morris minor )

I can't go Nothing to do with distance. The managers at work are at a training meeting that weekend so i'm left in charge of the store. Bad times. Oh well, spose its another £300 to spend on the car. Matt

You ask for peoples opinions on this, this is mine.If you don't like it hard luck. Read HotWire's post again. He wasn't asking for opinions. He was trying to point out that although on a map it looks miles away, when it comes to the roads its well connected. As he said, much better than Gaydon last year! I'd be keen to hear where IS close to you, that you would be happy to travel you. Then i can make a note so we can keep the show a safe distance from you! ;D

Its just not my cup of tea to drive for 6 hours to a show but I guess I'm not hardcore enough. I think you've just had a nail/hammer interaction there. It sounds very much like the gathering really isn't for you and to be brutally honest, I think we'll all be better off for it. A few years ago, some guys in Canada had set up a Delica forum and had asked me for some advice on how to organise a meet over there (because I'd been single handedly organising ALL the UK events for Delica's). After giving them lots of advice, people from all over Canada drove for DAYS to get to the meet. I got on a plane and flew ? thousands of miles to get to the meet. It was worth every penny and I'd do it again tomorrow. You get back what you put in. It seems to me like you're not willing to put much in, so you'll get zero sympathy from me. As some have said.....the event is about cars - the journey there is as much a part of that as the gathering itself. Ever heard of a road trip? Well that involves a vehicle (or vehicles) and some roads. It's a great adventure if you make it one....or a chore if it's someone like you. Having something like the gathering is essential in bringing together the likeminded enthusiasts from this forum from all over the country. For those really into it, you'll not hear any bleating or moaning about distance or cost. People coming from all over Europe, Ireland etc....get my respect for wanting to be part of the action and just getting on with planning their road trip which will form an integral & enjoyable part of the gathering. Your attitude towards the godawful 6hrs you'll have to 'endure' to get there is a perfect reflection of why you don't, and probably never will, get the point & purpose of this event. Me? I'll be having a GREAT time sharing a beer or ten with those that have made the effort and enjoyed the journey in the process. As penance for my rant, have a few pics of why I flew across the world to spend a weekend with some strangers up in some mountains:
