Having spent 5 years doing London to Newcastle and back twice a month I think you're times are a tad optimistic given that a good stretch of the M1 is currently 50 mph with speed cameras. I'm bowing out this year as this is my busiest time and if it's at Haynes for the next three years then roll on 2013.

Norwich to Sparkford : 4 hours 18 .. Come on the Saturday,.. leave at 4:30 on the Sunday be at home for 9.. Ipswich to Sparkford : 3 hours 45 home even earlier! is this due to small RR east anglia commitment then? I shall be there, but haven't booked sod all yet! not sure if its any gauge but it took four hours from sudbury suffolk (co10) to get to buckland dinham (southwest retro car roundup) in my 2002 at legal speeds. it took me about the same to make RRG08 due to the v festival planks and some tit on a sign at heathrow campaigning.

Great idea Mr Hotwire sir.
Must say, a couple of weeks ago, I drove to Devon in the 2CV from our home near Huntingdon. We passed by Sparkford on our very-cross-country route. Yes, it made our ears hurt and it took us many hours (top speed, 73mph on the sat-nav. At one point. Briefly) but it's a nice route and it's going to be worth it when we get there!

I'll be coming, providing the weapons in Gurgaon don't fap my rota up. I loved RR 07 (even though my mota was hardly 'proper') and RR 08 as most people know was a f**king disaster for me. Logistically yes I wish it was more central (Mallory was an ideal location for me but I as understand it they're not nice people to deal with) but I'm working RR 09 into part of a larger trip down the south coast. After Sparkford I'm going to see some old work mates in Bude and then I'm calling in on some friends in Bristol on the way back up. I keep my car in Conwy which is an 80 mile trip from where I live. What I'll probably do is get the car the night before I go and garage it overnight in Manchester and then head down to Sparkford. If anyone else is convoying from the NW then get in touch Conwy to Sparkford : 5 hours 33 minutes, 234.9 miles. That's more than a full tank just to get there :/ Sadly Paul H isn't going, and neither is reanimation.

I'm hoping to travel from the north west/midlands, undecided though as money is tight ATM. If I do go a convoy sounds fun!

as you can imagine, i've made this trip a few times now. Its actually not a bad run. I'm travelling from herts, and have done it in 2/2.5 hours every time. To be honest the roads are ace, and the A303 is a lovely road, and would be great for a convoy to cruise along. One thing i will say, is please don't think of the show as a travelling event that will one day "be close to me". We'll move the show from venue to venue as we see fit, but it not something we will be doing annually, and as HoTWire said we are gearing up to be at Haynes for the next three years. It is also VERY unlikely that the gathering will every take place up north. Any venue we choose needs to be close enough to at least one of us so that we can attend planning meetings. Anything above the midlands just becomes a logistical nightmare for us. Plus, its grim up there! Although its a bit of a trek this year, i think that when it actually comes to it the journey there will be an enjoyable aspect of the show. You'll stumble across others at service stations, pick up various convoys, see a load of different motors, and drive some really enjoyable roads.

I'm not a massive distance away, but it's still quite a drive and I can't wait! Cruising down the 303 in convoy is gonna rock!

This is where you went wrong.. you need to get in your car and use boat transport to get you to the South pacific Islands.. Island hop to Thailand then Laos -> China.. then depending on how risky you like your life, across the Middle East,.. or Russia .. into Europe.. then a boat to the UK.. Simple. Ah, an interesting plan. Top Gear has already proven that the Beetle is the best car for cross-country travel in remote locations, so the car isn't a problem. Sadly, I could never afford the adventure, unless I was going to be sponsored by a documentary film-maker. I wonder if Ewan MacGregor is busy? If you leave now you might make it in time for next year's event.

To be honest i think its a wibblepoo place to have it,its miles from anyone.Would have been better having it in a more central location as more people would have turned up.Bet its putting loads of people off.

Well, speak your mind but I honestly wonder what's wrong with people in this country. We live on a piffling little island. You can get to pretty much any part of it in a day yet people whinge about the distance.
Imagine what it's like living in America, or Australia, where it could realistically take days to get to an event! Look at the people coming from overseas. The Netherlands are not exactly close to Sparkford and while I'm curse word at geography, I'm pretty sure Germany isn't that close either.
Whatever, stop bad-mouthing just because YOU think it's too far. For everyone who does, I bet there are more who consider it quite handy thank you very much.

Well last year RR'08 was about ten miles from my house.. unfortunately I moved about three months before but made the trek back up.. this year I landed lucky and its again only 20miles from my house.. but this time I'm not moving! As for it being a pants location.. think the location will rock myself.. nice motors good set up and a track?? not many places can do that.. i'm not biased due to distance either if it was in Scotland i'd still be going. Hopefully its not putting too many off.. looking at the boards i'd say the turnout will be better than last year which was almost as central as you can get (Gaydon) plus looks like there will be more to see and do, not to mention this really is a top part of the country with some great roads (Abbotsbury coast road cruise on sat??). Plus of course if it does end up having a set site for a couple of years word will spread further and faster and more peeps, cars and trade stands will be attracted.. win win I say...
