This is where you went wrong.. you need to get in your car and use boat transport to get you to the South pacific Islands.. Island hop to Thailand then Laos -> China.. then depending on how risky you like your life, across the Middle East,.. or Russia .. into Europe.. then a boat to the UK.. Simple. Ah, an interesting plan. Top Gear has already proven that the Beetle is the best car for cross-country travel in remote locations, so the car isn't a problem. Sadly, I could never afford the adventure, unless I was going to be sponsored by a documentary film-maker. I wonder if Ewan MacGregor is busy?

I guess at a couple of easy hours but in the Volvo, while not exiting, it is turning out to be a great car to drive as it is smooth and comfy and just no grief, just cruise

it's an hour and 5 minutes according to google, but I'd be surprised if it takes me more than 40mins in my daily. If the MG is ready by then, then who knows what will happen on the way there, but I'll be staying off the motorway and off the mendips

I've driven (Datsuns) from my house to shows in Holland, Norway, Finland, and last month Northern Ireland. No way I'd trust a 30+ yr old car if it wasn't a Datsun. NEVER had a problem. See you at Yeovil!

The show moves around the country, it's always going to be a bit difficult for someone. Maybe next time eh! Indeed. My thoughts exactly. It was pretty close to me last year, nice and close the year before, this year I lose, but hey, roll the dice for next year... See where we end up. TBH I have had to cut my show going this year again due to costs. Not just RRG but retro Show got scotched and it looks like Mopar Nats will go the same way.

Sorry to say but Gathering is 3 years at Haynes now.. we needed to settle for a bit, it is a logistical nightmare learning a new venue each time...

Routebeschrijving naar Sparkford, Yeovil, Somerset, UK 637 km – ca. 7 uur 30 min. Via Dunkerque - Dover - verwijderen vanuit Eindhoven, Nederland unfortunately none of the retro rides is up for the trip so I have to pack up the company Focus...

I might be in a position to do the trip next year, who knows. I may be out of the country when its on so even if you had it in my back garden I couldn't come. The point is you have an event people WANT to travel to. That's a win. You'll never get 100% attendance. People like me will always have excuses. I hope they don't sound like whinges.

Bunch of wusses! I'm coming down for it anyway, and I'm bringing a convoy of people I've only met once or twice with me from flyering their cars Assuming they get their tickets sorted! But yeah, the point here is: bunch of people that have only been on the board once are driving 240 miles in old cars because of YOUR forums reputation. So well done Mr Hotwire, nobody can take that away from you, and it's bloody well deserved.

I almost feel guilty.. 2 minutes to cartgate linkroad.. 15 miles or so down the A303 and sorted. I say almost guilty because I deserve a reward for living and working in Yeovil!

Well I'll be driving down from 'oop North (Lancashire that is...). Yeh it's a bit of a way but I figure it'll be more than worth it. Anyway, I like driving and the van will enjoy a good long run (I hope).
Apart from anything else, Mrs L and I are looking at moving down that part of the country so can combine it with a bit of mooching around estate agents on Saturday ;D

Granted i've not bought me tickets yet (Don't get paid until t'mora) but ive already had a practice run out in the van the other weekend (On account of since passing my test in 2007 i've not actually driven that far out of manchester - how boring!) to see what it was like on a strategically planned route (Read:luckily mileage to the campsite and back was exactly the same as to RRG one-way) and to check i don't fall asleep for that long on the motorway (I don't. )

Well I'm just glad I'm single so I have nothing concrete to get in the way of me not getting there. Instead as I like a challenge I'm fitting an LSD and doing a cam upgrade plus some changes to the looks of the Escort just for RRG09 - and I'm currently sat in Stuttgart and won't be back to get on with it proper until the week of the show. I'm even flying back this weekend to get started as otherwise there'd be no chance of me making it with only a couple of days to do the build and get the engine re-tuned and the thing MOT'd.....(hmmm this could all go horribly wrong.....) Yes my holiday this year will be spent in the barn, playing with the car (making it faster and more unreliable) driving about 3.5hrs to the show, getting drunk, sleeping, trying not to crash on the track, gorping at great cars, then repeat and drive home. Followed by fixing what broke, going on a trackday and then driving back to Germany in the CRX. And yes the total cost of this plan is enough to buy another Mk2 Escort in good nick (and a 2 door at that!) If there is a will there is a way is all I have to say. ;D (but don't worry I do understand that real life means you need a lot of will, and an understanding gf/wife, which is why I'm doing this before real life catches up!)

Google says just under 3 hours home for me 150 miles, But i'll have the trailer so I'm limited speedwise
However as for my journey there on the Friday it's 30 miles cause I'm already camping that week in Bridport ;D

I've been quite lucky that the past two shows have been quite near to me, but distance doesn't bother me at all. Sure it'll cost more in fuel, but that just means my hangover will be less severe the following day... ;D
Didn't know Sparkford was gonna host RRG for the next three years. It sounds like a fantastic venue, I really can't wait!
I've had to cut back on shows this year due to lack of cash, but RR is the one I'll move heaven and earth to attend!

I'm coming around 500 miles each way, in a car with a four speed box and a tuned engine, and the ferry alone has cost me the guts of €200.

Durham to Sparkford : 5 hours 36 the challenge is set, and i will beat that time. ;D northern monkeys get shafted pretty much every time because theres not a lot of venues up here, so I'm always up for travelling.

Sadly it coincides with The Ford Anglia 105E Owners Club AGM at Stratford Racecourse, just like it did last year, but unlike last year when both shows were close together so I could do one on the Sat and the 'tother on Sun they're a bit too far apart this year so the AGM it is. It being the Anglias' 50th birthday it's a hard one to miss but I know those of us who can't make RRG will still be there in spirit and will be furnished with copious amounts of top quality photomographs.Splendid. Hope all who make it have an excellent time.
