Think again!! I've just been doing some Google Mapping from various places as I was concerned the venue was alienating people. However having visited the venue and seen how close it is to the A303 I thought it should be relatively straight forward for a lot of people to get there so... Norwich to Sparkford : 4 hours 18 .. Come on the Saturday,.. leave at 4:30 on the Sunday be at home for 9.. Ipswich to Sparkford : 3 hours 45 home even earlier! Lets go up the country a bit.. Liverpool to Sparkford : 4 hours 7 Sheffield to Sparkford : 4 hours 3 Manchester to Sparkford : 3 hours 58 Nottingham to Sparkford : 3 hours 30 Lets strech our legs a bit further Leeds to Sparkford : 4 hours 29 Durham to Sparkford : 5 hours 36 .. okay this is getting into the realms of heavy dedication but at least you aren't coming from ... Aberdeen to Sparkford : 9 hours 50 Lets head into the land of sheep and leeks.. Swansea to Sparkford : 2 hours 30 (as a contrast it took me 3 hours 30+ to get to the pod from Swansea) heading out into the wyllt... Aberytwyth to Sparkford : 3 hours 55 Although if any Druids want to visit it'll take 5 hours 20 from Holyhead So there you go... I don't know if it will sway anyone, but it isn't as scary as it looks on maps due to being very very well connected with motor ways M3 (->A303) and M5 (->A37) meet at Sparkford Also people coming down the A303 will get to see Stonehenge ... people coming down M5->M32 get to see Bristol Ikea......

We´ll proabably do 2000 kilometers and i´m sure we won´t win any prizes for the "furthest travelled" so......
go for it guys, it´s going to be the meet of the year! ;D

I'm coming down from Sheffield on Saturday morning, Should be about 4 hours? it's not that bad of a trip really. Set off about 11am after a hearty breakfast, arrive around 3pm. Leave on the sunday about 4 and get home in time for top gear.
I'm looking forward to Bristol Ikea - I wonder if it's the same as Nottingham, which is the same as Leeds, which is the same as Palo Alto, and Sacramento... Might stop off for some meatballs. Those are some tasty meatballs.

3 hours 30 is too far for a day trip. I can't get away for a whole weekend due to child care considerations and family work patterns. By the time you add the Sunday snarl on the local M42/M1 I could be 8 - 9 hours in the car in one day. According to the AA its a 346 mile round trip which at 25 MPG would cost me £62.77 in petrol which I can ill afford as it would have to come out of my fund for work on the car.
I see the point you are making HW, but its not as simple as that for all of us.
Non-appearance at RRG09 is not simply a case of "I can't be arsed" or "I don't go to southern events" for a lot of us.
if I lived in Yeovil and you arranged the event at say Donington you'd have the same reaction.
Have fun, post loads of photos after, see you at RRG10 maybe.

You're assuming that we'll all be driving to the speed limit at 90mph you should be dipping well under 4 hours from Leeds if you don't stop. Usually takes me about 2h 50 from Leeds to Bristol on a clear run. Matt

M5/M32? Google has some strange ideas! That takes you right through the middle of Bristol which will take far longer than it's estimate! M5 all the way to Bridgwater, then toward Glastonbury and turn off by The Pipers or down to Taunton and across to the A303 I reckon! You will then get to see Humphrey the camel and the wicker man thing! Much better than Ikea

I was suppose to be at Retro Cars this weekend but family commitments ment I was in Wales instead. Hopefully though it'll show people that it isn't as scary as it looks on a map to get to the best show this year If they have the weekend free and can come and camp. Also 3 hours 30 for a day trip? Is what I did to Retro Cars Show from Wales. Left at 6, got there at 9:30.. left show at 4:30,.. home in time for a late-ish dinner and Last Of The Summer Wine

We have child care issues as well, were just bringing them all with us, course they are not babies anymore so life is simpler, they actually LIKE being stuck in a cold damp uncomfy tent.

Well, Google maps couldn't calculate a route from my house, but by entering it in bit by bit, we get: Home to Adelaide Airport: 40min Adelaide Airport to Heathrow via Melbourne with Qantas: 28 hours 15 min Heathrow to Sparkford: 1 hour 58 min Total: 31 hours, plus time spent in Customs...
Hmm. I think I'll be waiting here at home for the picture threads to roll in. If I had that much money to burn then I would be spending it on the car!

But thats only 2 hours 38 minutes of driving time, sure there is a plane flight in there, but you will probably be asleep so wont even notice it ;D

Adelaide Airport to Heathrow via Melbourne with Qantas: 28 hours 15 min This is where you went wrong.. you need to get in your car and use boat transport to get you to the South pacific Islands.. Island hop to Thailand then Laos -> China.. then depending on how risky you like your life, across the Middle East,.. or Russia .. into Europe.. then a boat to the UK.. Simple.

I was one of those people who thought Hummmmm its a tad bit far, but that was because 3 hours in the MG and a constant drone from the exhaust would do my head in. However I thought balls to it the car was made to drive distances so I am going.
Also we are there for the weekend so no excuse either, and I cant wait!!!!!!

Hmm, 6 hours and 28 minutes apparently, probably more as the Toledo vibrates over 50mph, so thats me travelling at 45 mph all the way down (or i could just bring the panda)

Think RR Gathering is too far away from you?? No, I think I'm too far away from RR Gathering! (My excuse is having a little baby which makes it all a bit tricky, not to mention my baby-related perpetual tiredness and lack of cash). I'll just look foward to the pics - and RRG 2010.

I want to come, but due to work commitments I'd only be able to get there for the one day. Once I start adding the costs up, fuel, entry costs, food, drinks and other sundries it's a pretty big bill - enough cash to get one my old crocks through MOT and a decent contribution to the tax.
Route planner shows it as just under 9 hours driving, I had it throw up an hour less each way for a journey down south - set off at 4am, left my destination about 1pm I think, got to Sheffield around 7pm due to Sunday congestion on the M25 and M1. Pulled into the next services and dozed off until the early hours, got home about 2am in the end. Vowed never to go anywhere near the M25 ever again, even if someone is selling a Honda Quintet for a tenner.
That's a different story though, thankfully this doesn't go near the M25 but I went to the Harewood show (30-40 minutes from me) and was stuck in traffic for hours, it really took the shine off the day as there was only a few hours left and I couldn't enjoy it much as I was fed up and tired. Had I not already bought the tickets I'd have turned back (many did).
The show moves around the country, it's always going to be a bit difficult for someone. Maybe next time eh!
