Many people have resorted to the smaller garages rather than the main dealers which has made us busier and because we mainly do MOT work we have had an influx of people spending big money fixing up cars to trade in with the scrappage scheme! All the overtime I can manage!

I work at the Port of Felixstowe where most of the countries goods come through in containers and I can't remember it ever being so busy. We had a quiet spell at the beginning of the year where they starting taking away all our overtime and bonuses but now it's gone crazy busy, So maybe everyone is spending again and the worse of the recession is over?.

I was made redundant last Tuesday (lorry driver) but I'm starting a new Job on Monday delivering vehicles on trade plates. The credit crunch has really fecked the transport industry up, hauliers going bump every day, also the rate for driving a lorry has been driven into the ground. I'm half glad I'm out of it TBH. *edit* much of our work was through ^^Woolworths^^. not a great long term business partner, after they went quite a few of our other customers went tits up, couple of weeks ago the biggest one went then we followed. Happy days!

I consider my self lucky, I deliver milk, in bulk (as in £1000's worth a day) to retailers on an Artic. We've got more work than ever. I don't know why, the bosses say it's because more folk are not going away on Holiday. But the UK haulage industry in general is going down the pan, Made worse by the recent law changes
However my once out of work brother and brother in law are both back in work. One is a AA recovery driver now. Aparently the AA are very busy folk holidaying in the UK and spending less on their cars in terms of keeping them on the road.

I'm an electrician in a school and at the moment I have too much work on to cope with, and it will get even busier come the school holidays. Moneys curse word but at least it's regular work in these times.

Not good here, killed my small business last yr but saw the writing on the wall and got a job, after a while. Still had to sell my Amazon to pay the mortgage/eat. Less cash means Landy still in the garage, which means no room for on-the-side paint jobs to pay for bits for Landy, vicious circle. Nice variety of stuff going on there caddycol.

I think the media scaremongered the country to death and a lot of companies used it as an excuse to cut staff with no comebacks.

Been out of work for nearly 6 months now was/am a CAD Manager but work in and around B'ham is curse word now. Even stacking shelves in Asda there isn't anything. Looking at doing anything to get back into work.

Looking at doing anything to get back into work. I know how you feel, when the local Morrisons distribution centre or Macdonalds arent taking on staff you know its bad. I havent worked for 3 years now due to becoming a househusband, i do want a part time job but there is literally nothing going.

I think the media scaremongered the country to death and a lot of companies used it as an excuse to cut staff with no comebacks. Couldn't agree more. There appears to be a major cost cutting excercise where I work and yet no real discernible reason, though some of the stuff we produce is dying out now.
