..feature retro and unusual cars in their videos?
Madonna's currently walking past a lovely C130 Laurel in her latest dirge, while popclown Robbie Williams is whining in a Saab 96. Even mcbusted have a viva in one of theirs. Whats the score?

It's the same with TV detectives. Supposedly gives them "character" I guess?

they don't have to pay as much for the use of the car i think? i mean vauxhall arent going to complain about you using a viva for a heavy metal grunge band who slaughter cows and worship the devil, compared to using a brand new model,. that might give the car a bad reputation, or a reputation it doesnt really want to give the car

I have a random question:
About 5 years ago I was in Germany, watching TV. Some german rap-song came on, and prominently featured was a black Opel Monza Coupe, bouncing around on Hydraulics.
Anyone ANY IDEA WHATSOEVER who it may have been?
long shot, I know...

I've always been of the thought that the cars are more unique and stand out a bit more,.. I can't see Madonna or Robbie Williams wanting to sing their songs perched on a Vauxhall Vectra. Only modern cars that every get featured are the serious top aspirational cars.
My fave retro car in a video is the Lambo in Kylie's - Can't Get You Out Of My Head... proper retro-chic. Want to see the Datsun in the Madonna video as well...

Not a pop video but an advert...
Has anyone seen the Mk2 Granada 'Convertable' in the T Mobile add (Yes a 4 Door Convertable!)?

How have they done it? Surely a four door would bend up?

NHS used a Citroen DS as death in ad about heart disease a while back. Bit harsh on the car I thought!

Ill agree with the, because it gives them a character statement, cos most need it!
Mk2 granada is so nice, must have fatter sills or box section inner reinforcements, someone must own that car, its a bit random to build it just for the commercial...
I noticed peugeot ads have old ens in, I don't understand the message, its still going so drive it! Hit it with the stick, a quick refurb and some nice rims and your son neednt rob da bank!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

A lot of ad's seem to be made in South Africa, New Zealand or Australia, so the cars you see always look a bit different, and it's easier to find old stuff there?
I have heard that film/video/ad companies find it easier to buy our sort of cars than hire them, probably works out cheaper? Not sure if there are many 70's cars on the hire books either, how many of us here have our ride listed with anybody?
There was a MkI Golf in Love Soup on BBC1 the other night - late blue 5-door. Back seat got used several times....

Observed that the current vid by "Wanker of the Century" Lee Ryan (That's the astonishingly thick lad out of 'Blue' for anyone who doesn't know) features a pant-wettingly cool (but a tad scruffy) 65 Mustang.

I would have though the Granada mentioned is one of the old Crayford conversions?

using old peugeots means that there are no competitors cars in their ads. Also it makes the ads more interesting and is a sop to their long standing customers. I guess it was also a bit of client massaging by the agency, makes the client feel good, keeps the cash coming in!
Loads of ads are shot in South Africa as it is so cheap a recent BBC news 24 trailer was shot there as it was cheaper to fly out and mock up Cape Town to look like London than to actually shoot in London!! Plus the weather can be guarenteed. Plus it's a great beano for the agency staff and the client!

Yeah i figured some of that, I realise 'normal' folk wont think like us retro riders, and see that the guys got a curse word old car and needs/would love a new peugeot. but with my retro head am thinking yeah wish i had a 505 (or whatever it is). So the ad probably works. I am quite partial to those new 407's but thats a future topic i think

It's a 504 estate. Probably just as practical as his desired new Pug given the reliability of the 504, the comfort and quite good performance. They still make them in Nigeria you know!

We were chauffered about in an old 504 Wagon (complete with dashboard mounted AK 47 and bullet-holed glass & bodywork) when I worked in the Yemen. I somehow doubt a 206 "look" would be up to carting 5 sweaty blokes + equipment round the desert all day....
