Hi everyone, thanks for following this thread even though I have been curse word at updating it! I am so touched people were taking time to see how we were getting on ... I have so many stories and photos to share but I don't know where to start! We did 6325 miles in a 29 year old Capri in a month ... we reached the banks of the Volga and then turned around and came back ... it wasn't Mongolia but it was our choice to turn around ... the car wasn't broken, the team wasn't broken but Siberia and Mongolia were badly broken ... flash floods and unprecedented heavy rain destroyed lives, towns and bridges ... our route home through the Gobi-Altai Aimag was the worst hit... there was no way we could complete the round trip in our 28 day schedule .. perhaps we never could ... but we gave it a shot ... I remain convinced we could have got to Ulan Bator .. but we never would have got the car back out of Mg in the time available to us. There are so many things I need to do now ... not least of which is to change this bloody thread title ... the Mongolia Capri IS NOT MIA ... it never was but for a few hours ... trouble is I am so inept I am not sure how to change the thread title! Thanks so much to everyone who has helped, supported and taken interest in our endeavours! And does anyone know where SkamanFrank is .... last known position was Kazakhstan ... with the Imp folding up like an accordian!

Back.
Massive trip.
We did the mileage to reach Ulaan Bator one-way. If we'd done like the other teams in our rally and used a modern truck, done a one-way trip, donated the modern lorry/van, then flown home, we'd be bedecked in a wreath of laurels.
But we made this thing double-hard, by doing the rally TWICE. One to get there and one to get back. And it was obviously going to take TWICE as long to do it than we planned. Oooops!
(I'll do a full report on my rally experience LATER. I'm shagged and need to earn some money at the moment.)
Thanks to everyone here who gave us a nod or nudge, donated to the charities we rallied for, turned a wrench, forwarded email and phone calls, donated kit, donated a ride, a night in their flat, or came to our send-off from the Ace.
Special thanks to:
Scary, who is a genius at making something from nothing, and who never flagged at getting the car prepared.
Fred & Gary, who just showed up and helped, with kit, batteries, phones, utensils, auto parts, and free Fred hugs.
Spike, who charged up our Fred phone for us, and gave Scary the support to build our car and trailer.
Seth, for the airport shuffle and his family's hospitality.
PandaSelecta, for kicking off the donations and publicity on RR.
Autofive, for helping Scary with lots of "stuff".
Simon at Classic Ford, for giving us pre-event coverage.
Matt Jones for putting us up after the Ace, complete with breakfast service!
My understanding wife and family.
Andy Emmett and Larry Wells, my team cohorts.
Now, back to the grind.
(PS, Speed-B, to edit the title, simply hit the edit button, then change the Thread Title. Boom. Done.)

Fantasic that you made it back complete with capri. I imagine at the thought of diving it back it would have been all too easy to jump on a plane. We need pics though, as its the only way to prove you went anywhere at all

Frank is still going (see his thread). The Imp has been welded up and as far as we know they are still heading for Mongolia - last heard of heading through Kaz'stan in convoy with a Fiat 126 and a pick-up truck.

Thanks Tim - no sure if you have looked at the charity rallies website but I have updated the blogs to show the cities in chronological order now - so it gives a pretty good idea of our route - bearing in mind the map joins the dots in a straight line ... I will update and add more details and photos as time allows so it is worth checking back or registering if you want the full story www.charityrallies.org/50north

somewhere near Semey I expect - the Kaz crossing has killed many a car ... including plenty with more ground clearance and much tougher chassis/body than the poor old Imp. Frank and Olly did well to get it that far....
Where are they posting this info - facebook?

The Imp club website is where he's posted about it. Major gearbox failure, along with a newly 3-cylinder engine and a collapsing shell caused them to stop. Olly is continuing in the pick-up, AFAIK.

A little corner of Kaz'stan will be forever a piece of Scotland.
