I wasn`t going to post any pictures until it was all done but seeing as though it's pretty sunny today I thought I'd get some pictures of the Polo. Remember it looked like this when I bought it... It now looks like this... Lost the graphics on the sides and door bottoms, polished its ass off and gave it a general clean up. I'm pretty pleased with how the bootlid came out, less than a fivers worth of vinyl but didn`t account for the double curvature when I started but seems ok. The rivets are still in place for the badges so there are bubbles there, not sue what to do with them. Still need to fit the 14" Golf steelies, 195/45 Yokos, drop it and fit some new seats I've got that I think are from a Polo GT. Spot the Mooneyes too I'm gonna start a Readers Rides thread for it as well. Comments please

Once its MoT'd, I'm gonna lop a couple of coils off either end. I couldn`t get the bootlid to shine up again, even after numerous T-cut sessions. It had been resprayed at some point and has been bleached by the sun pretty bad. I used 3/4 of a bottle of Autoglym bumper care on the plastics I've started using Merguires car shampoo now, smells of cherries ;D

Well Done! It's come out great. Love the contrast now youve polished it up. I second BenzBoy with the lowering, and personally would have made the squares on the checked bootlid smaller, but i like how its perfectly even. The key hole looks dead centre. Good job all round.

personally would have made the squares on the checked bootlid smaller, but i like how its perfectly even. I couldn`t be arsed to do them any smaller, I cut them all out by hand, 4" square. Maybe if i do it again, I'll borrow an guillotene to speed up the process. It looks pretty good from a distance but there are a few mistakes close up, had to trim 1/8" of a couple near the top where it gets tight with the curvature.

Cheers for the comments guys, really makes me feel good about it unlike when the woman next door comes out and just rolls her eyes at me. Could some please 'shop some ATS Classics onto it?

Top tip: Black shoe polish (the liquid sort that comes with a sponge on the top that you squeeze it through) is GREAT for black bumpers and arches. Dries lovely and lasts for ages. If your bumpers are particularly faded it might take two coats, but a LOT cheaper than Autoglym stuff I recommend Morrison's own value brand

That is fantastic work. Is that a period tennis racket on the parcel shelf? ATS classics a bit 'obvious' IMHO, but very quick and dirty:

Aye Works a treat. If you get it on the paintwork, which is easily done round mirrors and stuff, just wipe it off - no greasy marks like with the green gel Autoglym stuff... And it works well on the vinyl round the back window (on the pillars on yours?)

if you want to do the bumpers properly and not have to spend shedloads of money on constantly polishing the plastic.
A heatgun!!! i know it seems a little extreme, and to get the best results you have to remove the bumper, all you do is get the gun up to temp and gently heat up the bumper, before your eyes the bumper will change colour, be carful to keep the gun moving, if you don't the plastic will melt.
Takes about an hour a bumper and brings them back to as good as now

I've heard about the heat gun trick before, but didn't fancy it on the Golf...
